Last night on the farm, St. Lucie blew a lead, the elements spared Binghamton from a full nine miserable innings, and Savannah collected the system’s only win.
AAA: Buffalo 1, Indianapolis 6
Pretty much everybody of consequence from Buffalo’s opening day roster has either been called up (F-Mart, Tejada) or is injured (Mejia, Duda), so all there really is to look at from day to day is the continued progress of Kirk Niewenhuis (1-4 Wednesday) and the attempted reconstruction of Bobby Parnell (a rare clean inning in relief of an awful Casey Fossum, keeping the Indians from scoring despite allowing two hits). Nothing much more to report.
AA: Binghamton 3, New Hampshire 11 F/5
Mark Cohoon’s terrific start to the season hit a speed bump yesterday, as the young left-hander got lit up to the tune of 11 hits and 11 runs (only six were earned, thankfully). Before rain ended the B-Mets night mercifully, Josh Satin had two doubles and Brahiam Maldonado had two RBIs and a single double. All in all it was a fairly forgettable night in upstate New York.
A: St. Lucie 4, Tampa 5
An Angel Pagan rehab-solo home run and a 6.1 inning, two earned run start from Scott Moviel were not enough to hold off another bullpen breakdown in St. Lucie Wednesday. Up 3-1 going into the bottom of the seventh, Nick Carr and Jeffrey Kaplan combined with Moviel to give up four runs in the next two innings. On a more uplifting note, Juan Lagares had three hits, including a triple, and Wilmer Flores recorded a 1-4 night with one RBI.
SALLY: Savannah 8, Charleston 4
Thank god for the Sand Gnats, whose bats powered the only affiliate win Wednesday. Aderlin Rodriguez and Rafael Fernandez carried the offense; each smacked two homers, with Fernandez notching four RBIs to lead the team. Aderlin Rodriguez’s power continues to intrigue; despite his .208 average, the 19-year-old has already hit nine home runs this season. You can’t teach power.
Chase Huchingson was just average on the mound, going five innings and allowing four runs (three earned). Erik Goeddel was much better in his first relief outing of the year, going three scoreless innings and allowing just two hits.

I believe Terry said that he will play four games, and assuming there is no injury set back he should return after that, which works out to Sunday. Thus, F-Mart will DH Friday and Saturday and then likely be sent back to Buffalo….. unless, he does so well that they cut either Harris or Hairston and decide to platoon F-Mart with Bay in left field. (a man can dream, right?)

I wonder how long Sandy will keep those two around. I understand why Harris is around, but Hairston has done literally nothing since the ST.

I don’t think they’ll keep F-Mart over Hairston, because he needs regular at bats in Buffalo, but right now Hairston’s biggest plus is he can play centerfield, but once Pagan is back both he and Pridie can play centerfield, so Hairston becomes more expendable, especially if Evans gets a chance and proves he can hit lefties, which Scott has not done this year. Plus, Terry is a fan of Evans.

I’m with you. Let the Fmart play. Why the hell not, at this point.

me too, but the Mets don’t play Monday. Collins said F-Mart DH Friday and Saturday, Beltran on Sunday which could be a little hint that they’re going to make the move Sunday. Really depends if they want Pagan to meet them in Chicago in Tuesday or fly with them on Sunday night/monday.

At this point the Bisons just need bodies.

Yup, they did something similar last week signing Bubba Bell.
