As Per Adam Rubin of ESPN.com
Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter was diagnosed with four small brain tumors, according to the New York Daily News.
He will have surgery at Duke University Hospital within the next few days, the paper reported.
According to the Daily News, a source close to Carter, 57, said he had been complaining of headaches and forgetfulness recently. It was an MRI on Saturday that revealed the tumors.
It won’t be known until the surgery whether the tumors are benign or malignant, according to the paper.
Carter — the catcher for the World Series champion 1986 Mets — spent 19 years with the Mets, Expos, Giants and Dodgers. He hit .262 with 324 career home runs and 1,225 RBIs.
He has been managing at Palm Beach Atlantic College this past year, near his home in Palm Beach, Fla.
My thoughts are with Gary as well as all of the Carter family. I hope these tumors are benign.

certainly scary. And yes, hopefully they are not too serious. A friend of mine, about his age, is undergoing treatment for a malignant brain tumor, and it is not pleasant.
I actually learned recently that the daughter of someone I know has some kind of spot on her brain (she is about 20). And they only found it because she got hit in the head with a softball, and knocked out, so they did a CT to check for damage (she had a concussion). The spots had nothing to do with the injury, and are in a different area, but they only found it checking for something else.

Sorry to hear this. Hopefully all will be benign and he’ll be on the road to recovery.
