Glad the Cubs seem to be about our speed, ’cause that’s some lineup we’re trotting out there.
I fear Beltran’s hot start will taper off some until we get some regular hitters back in the lineup. And yea, right now I’m not counting on Bay as a ‘regular’ hitter. His bat is scaring no one. Pitch around Beltran and the rest should be a lot easier. Beltran should just keep taking walks for now.

More gems from Fred over on MLBTR:
On the Reyes topic, Wilpon said, “I know there’s a great question about whether we can keep the shortstop, so we’re preparing for that if that should happen.” He admitted that Carlos Beltran “will be elsewhere” and the Mets hope Fernando Martinez could fill his shoes. Of Martinez, Wilpon said, “He’s fragile, but he can hit.”
Verducci says the Mets “have studied the success of the Boston Red Sox in letting top veterans play out their contracts and taking the compensatory draft picks,” and would only trade Jose Reyes if they receive a first-round type talent who is close to the Majors, similar to when the Athletics acquired Brett Wallace for Matt Holliday. Does this mean the Mets won’t consider trades built around top prospects who are not big league ready, such as the Giants’ Zack Wheeler?

On former GM Omar Minaya, Wilpon said, “It was painful to see what Omar did to himself. Why did he do that?” I’m not sure what Wilpon is referring to specifically here.

What? Oh man, I wish Fred would just take the road he went down since 2004 until this year and stop addressing the media. Just let Sandy take it from here.

Yeah, Fred should not be saying anything even vaguely related to players or details of the team. Talk about charity visits. madoff if he feels like abusing himself. But never, ever stuff like this.
Sandy must want to wring his scrawny old man neck.
the Omar comment might relate to his Rubin meltdown?

If it was regarding the Omar/Ruben debacle, what would posses him to make that comment now? He certainly didn’t comment back when it happened (and yes, I know Omar was still his GM then).
It’s water under the bridge. No Met fan really wants to read about the cracks in the FO, even if it was past tense. Sure doesn’t instill any confidence.

what the heck is Harris doing in CF? Jerry Collins got a death wish?

Well, that was ugly – again.
Met get 9 hits and 1 run.
Cubs get 13 its and 11 runs. I lost count after the 5th unearned run so that’s tells the story tonight.

And for those who didn’t watch, Bay left the game in the 6th, I believe, with a ‘stiff right calf’.

I wondered what happen there, I thought maybe he was double switched out. Most likely they were thinking might as well get Fmart some time.

Well if that’s the case, why use an injury excuse?
I’m waiting to hear an update on the post game on Bay. They didn’t get to Collins’ interview yet.
