Haven’t listened to this podcast yet, not sure I really want to b/c Francessa drives me crazy.
Did listen to this one below.
http://espn.go.com/espnradio/player?rd=1#/podcenter/?id=6590208&autoplay=1&callsign=WEPNAM
Sandy discussing payroll on ESPN.
So….somewhere above the 100 million alluded to in the SI article and somewhere below the 140 or so right now. He wouldn’t commit to exactly how much b/c right now, understandably he just doesn’t know at the moment. Depends on how several things shake out.
Sandy says more than once that 100 million was not a quote by Fred. ‘Read the article’.
I’d be happy to but I haven’t seen it published anywhere yet.
Might be a small thing but I like the way Sandy references ‘us’ and ‘we’ instead of ‘they’ or ‘the Mets’. Just gives a little feel he’s not some ‘clean up’ guy Selig installed but actually considers himself part of the Met family.
Can’t help but admire Sandy’s professionalism and sense of humor.

O.K., just listened to this one. Wasn’t as bad as I thought as it was rare but Francesa didn’t talk over Sandy which is usually his norm no matter who he is interviewing or talking to on the air.
Again, Sandy’s professionalism and humor is refreshing from what we have been used to. Sandy mentioning he had a chance to chat with KRod and said: ‘Frankie, how did you miss being mentioned by Fred in this article’? LOL.
Sandy still saying the payroll going forward is not set in stone, he’s not been given any cap, 100 million is not a number discussed with him and thinks it will be somewhere ‘north of 100 and south of current payroll’. Can’t ask for much more right now b/c of all factors that will be involved.

If that’s the payroll projection I have no problem with that while transitioning kids into the lineup. I trust Sandy spending say $100-$115 far more than Omar spending $140.

don’t forget, the current payroll is not really 142 (the number that seems to be most often mentioned). It is effectively 124, since castillo and Ollie are in the count but not on the team.
so IMO any discussion about going up or down from this year (as it relates to the team being better/worse) should start at the lower figure.

Sandy kept referring to it as $140-145 million area, depending on performance incentives reached.

that is what they are paying, and the first 18 that comes off has nothing to do with the actual team.
