Thoughts and prayers to the Reyes family.

    That’s some lineup, huh?

      same about the family.

but at the risk of getting flamed, I think the bereavement list is a bit overdone. And not to be mean or anything, but it is his grandmother. Miss a day (2 tops assuming it is in the Dominican), OK. But 7 days? that is way too long.

I know that I would be laughed at if I asked for a week off because my granny died, especially if I wanted it with pay!

Well, we don’t know the circumstances. For all we know, Jose might be the ‘man’ of that family and he’s the one who has to take care of all arrangements. Maybe he’s the only close family left.

Jose Reyes to ESPN’s Enrique Rojas he expects to return this series. Reyes is eligible to be activated from the bereavement list on Thursday.

Wow. This seems unlike you. It’s possible Jose was in a family where Granny raised him. It is also possible that he was very close to Granny.

It’s very definite that he is not an office drone who is easily replaceable and that he–and the union which negotiated it for him–have made the collectively bargained agreement which gives him 3–7 days off.

Lots of silly, mediocre nonsense here lately, but this chapter of it is from a VERY surprising source.

Reyes said he’ll be back by the end of the Pirates series. Which means he’d miss 3-4 games tops.

Should we begrudge him taking time off if he was close to his grandmother?

            I say no.

It’s baseball. He’s not curing disease or fighting a war.

          2. Prismo

I’m with you. But honestly, I think missing 7 games would’ve been stretching it. 3-4 games however, much lesser of a deal. ESPECIALLY with this team…it’s not like this is a September race to the playoffs. lol

this may be the single worst lineup that I can remember seeing. Ever.

      agreed

Good thing I’ve got two kegs on tap for this game. Oy. This is gonna be brutal to watch.

You know this lineup’s gonna score 8 runs just to mock us.

    1. stickguy

at least they are playing the Pirates. That might help.

Better hope Gee has good stuff tonight.

and why not go with Turner at clean up? About the only guy out there that seems to be able to drive in runs.

and really sad that Bay sucks so much that they didn’t bother to put him back in when they lost their best offensive player.

      1. oleosmirf

can’t mess with Turner. He’s playing way over his head…

      2. Prismo

Because he’s at 2nd base, duh.

    2. metsfan4decades

As long as they don’t give up 9 runs, it’ll be fine with me!

    3. Prismo

I was 1 run off. Bow down to your nostradamus overlord.

      1. kingman 26

        “Nostradamus Overlord”

        That’s very good.

Sounds like it should have been the name of a Seattle Grunge band from the 1990s.

Or a metal band Rusty would love.

Everytime a grounder goes to 3B, we better start prayin’ hard. Harris to Murphy is asking for trouble.

I looked up and compared some rookie stats on fangraphs, and Turner is really at the front of the pack. The most amazing thing is that he’s only played in about half of the Mets games this season, but he’s 3rd in the NL in RBI and 4th in WAR. Most of his competition in these areas have played 10-20+ more games than him.

Gee was harder to compare, aside from wins. I’m not sure how much ERA means when he’s being compared to streaky relievers who’ve thrown 20 innings so far.

    1. metsfan4decades

Turner has been a real surprise for me. Have my fingers crossed he keeps right on raking.

Gee I liked since last September when he filled in. You look at his stuff and you think nothing special, borderline back end of the rotation starter. But he just keeps getting it done and with a partial tear, no less.
Really, who had Gee as the first starter to win 5 games with no losses in the pool?

      1. TRS86

5 wins for Gee does not surprise me at all nor does the fact that he was the first to get there. Not unusual for a decent backend guy to rack up the wins IF they normally get to face other backend guys. However, to do it without a loss is certainly impressive. Certainly racked up the Ks last night.
