Reyes…thank the gods.
Good thing I didn’t see Harris’ name in this lineup. If I did, think I would have punched something.

That was the most bizarre game I’ve watched in quite a while.
Nice comeback win, boys.

I saw the comments on the site early when Pelf had the rough first, then checked gameday to find them tied at 7. was not expecting that.
of no small importance was Pelf gathering himself enough to get through 5, only giving up 1 run in the last 3. Going to Misch (he still around?) or anyone else for the 3rd might not have ended so well!

No. Misch was DFA’d.
Terry just said in the post game he needed Pelf to go 100 pitches b/c that BP didn’t need to be in there early. LOL.
He did compliment the back end of the BP though – meaning Izzy and KRod.

I had a meeting also during the early ugly innings with mute on.
By the time the meeting was over, it was 7-0. Watching it with no sound was somehow worse.
However, when I tuned back in I continued to watch. That 8th inning with the Harris pinch running, Cap pinch hitting, balk, then Thole pinch hitting for Cap on a 1-1 count was worth the price of admission.

certainly can’t say they didn’t care or have the grustle to fight back. If they were really a bunch of malingering check cashers, they would have mailed this sucker in after the 2nd inning!

This is true…staging a huge comeback to split four with the world-beater Pirates at home surely is a sign of a huge winning streak beginning.

LOL, sorry to disappoint but according to Rubin, looks like it’s Manny Acosta.
Since our very own ‘Last Night On The Farm’ series started, it’s made it very easy for me to follow the prospects and those on the Buffalo shuttle. As far as I can tell, Acosta looked like he had a good month and probably was next in line for the promotion.
Here’s hoping it continues when he gets here. He was never really flat out bad when he was here, going back to last year.

Why I love Ralph Kiner. On Jason Bay, one of the coldest most honest things I’ve heard about Jason stated in a fresh never used manner:
“He’s got a great number on the back of his uniform but he hasn’t come close to wearing it…”
Ouch, on Bay wearing the power hitting number 44.

I’ve seen many a debate these past two weeks on which Omar contract was worse: Perez of Bay.
To me, it’s not close. It’s Ollie.
Bay at least defensively is better than advertised. Plus I feel a bit sorry for him and I don’t think Ollie ever invoked that same feeling for me.
He might very well be what we see and as good as it gets, which means we’re probably stuck with him.

I will take Bay. Longer contract, a lot more money, and he could actually be blocking a prospect that deserves PT (if not right now, soon).
2 more years guaranteed, at money that could be going to reyes instead.

Most certainly not, especially if he’s sucking or mediocre. Figure he’ll go into a platoon and then bye bye option.
But who do they actually have knocking on the door of the OF spot. Fmart? He’ll be in RF. Duda? Not likely. Evans? Pardon me, i have to clean up the coffee that shot through my nose. Maybe Bay will be blocking someone in 2013, but I don’t see him blocking anyone in the extreme short term or even next year.
TRS86
6/3/2011-9:05am at 9:05 am (UTC -4)
I guess if you could count Kirk, Duda, Fmart as guys that he could be blocking but honestly there is most likely room for all of them anyway.
njstuckintx
6/3/2011-9:12am at 9:12 am (UTC -4)
True. I would figure Kirk would be taking over CF (assuming Pagan isn’t around) and Fmart in RF. Duda’s claim to fame at this point is being the largest recipient of a sports man-crush from a certain someone from this website… Other than that, there isn’t a Heyward or a Dominic Brown waiting in the wings, unfortunately.
TRS86
6/3/2011-9:28am at 9:28 am (UTC -4)
True but Duda’s on fire right now. Last 10 games in AAA 4 HR and an OPS of 1.242. Up to .927 for the season now. The guy has power there’s no doubt. Can he hit MLB pitchers instead of AAA pitchers? Not sure. At worst though I could see him getting a platoon chance with Bay if things do not improve.
stickguy
6/3/2011-10:04am at 10:04 am (UTC -4)
the timing may not be quite so bad. They just seem to have a few guys (probably lower down) that all are targetted to LF (Like Flores). But yeah, that is not a this year or next issue!
Don’t snooze on Duda. he had a hell of a year last year in AAA, and a very good finish in NY. and he is crushing the ball now.
Very short stints in the majors are hard to judge much from. But I would have no problem putting him out there, especially in a platoon, to see what he could do with a couple months of regular PT.

6/3/2011-9:18am at 9:18 am (UTC -4)
wow. In hindsight this looks bad. Doesn’t appear Bay is going to come close to production that warrants that contract.
I can’t imagine who Bay would be immediately blocking either, especially since we’ll need a RF shortly who I have to assume will be FMart to start with.

metsfan4decades
6/3/2011-9:27am at 9:27 am (UTC -4)
I have no idea. However, I have a hard time believing past production had something to do with PEDs, that he speculatively used to secure one last big contract, then stopped using once he came here.
Maybe I’m just naive?
TRS86
6/3/2011-9:30am at 9:30 am (UTC -4)
I just don’t see that. If that were the case then all of his outs would be pop flies to the warning track or at least hell a pop fly. PED’s also would not explain the increase in K’s either. I think he is just as Keith said, stuck. Pressing so much that there’s no way he can get out of it. Making 100 changes trying to find something that works. In other words last year when he was struggling, he panicked.
saltygary
6/3/2011-9:37am at 9:37 am (UTC -4)
Before PED’s there were plenty of guys that would tail off like this. Could be his hand/eye reaction is just slowing down with age. His swing is purely defensive at this point. It just doesn’t look like he sees the ball quick enough to put on a good swing and drive the sucker. There also have been so many hanging pitches that he should of crushed and he swung right threw them or was too late.

kingman 26
6/3/2011-9:47am at 9:47 am (UTC -4)
Sure it could be PEDs.
They don’t solely make you hit further, or why would pitchers use them?
They improve strength, reflexes, etc.
Other than the occasional really bad slow pitch, he never gets around solidly on anything.
Of course there is no evidence, but it sure could be an explanation.
He might have used in PITT and then in BOS, and as he does seem like a good guy, he might have quit as soon as he signed what would clearly be his last big deal which would have him set for the next 20 generations of his family.
Not definite of course, but certainly a good circumstantial explanation.
3 XBH in 32 games and a .307 SLG %. .307??
And he can still field, thrown, and run; it is not like he has lost a step speed-wise, not like his arm is weak, or anything else.
As some players have said, the use of PEDs was MUCH more widespread than the public knows or will ever know.
Bay the last three years sure puts up a great case for being a user.

George Foster declined overnight, but to 20+ HR, not almost none.

A source with direct knowledge of Wright’s contract told the Daily News that the $16 million club option for 2013 belongs only to the Mets. If the Mets trade Wright this offseason, the acquiring club would control him for just one year, with no contract option for 2013. Wright would become a free agent after next season.

Yeah pointless anyway. All of this media garbage this week about Wright getting traded is just because everyone is tried of the Reyes stuff and not clicking on the stories. So then what? Create a story about Wright being traded. It’s not happening, nor should it. Think about it Wright goes, who the hell is the spokes person for the team with the media after tough losses or when Fred screws up or when Terry goes off? Jason Bay? It sure is not going to be Reyes or Beltran as they are almost media non-existent. Maybe one day Ike can develop that ability but right now he needs time to watch and learn from a master of NY media. Seriously, when is the last time you heard Wright make any controversy in the media? Call out any of this teammates? The guy is a pro.

I would imagine many of his teammates and players around the league think he is, just as Sheffield said as soon as he became a Met.

On another note, I’m seeing the on air sports shows, radio talks shows and columnists heating up on the ‘Beltran to Yankees trade speculation’ front.
We all know Beltran isn’t long for a Met uniform. IMO, I want Sandy to pull the trigger on the best trade possible, even if that does include the Yankees. I’m a life long Yankee hater but I don’t have any problem with Beltran going cross town. So be it if Beltran is the catalyst that propels them to post season or even a WS championship – not that I want to see the Yankees in the WS ever.
Reyes in pinstripes, on the other hand, is something I never, ever hope to see.

This is his 1st year in arbitration so the Yanks only have him for 2 more years after this. He would be a good guy to gamble on with Beltran. Not sure what his value is anymore but could not hurt to have a guy that you can throw into the mix for closer next year.

Well, as you may notice, I really never criticize Pelf.
He really has all of the physical tools for success, and he pitched very well in more than just stretches last year.
So hard to figure what his problem is, as he doesn’t seem timid. He might really just be a bonehead like Parnell.
Still, Pelf throws hard, has secondary pitches, never gets hurt, and is still just 27.
I am still on the Pelf bandwagon.

That makes one of us. I’ve been off the Pelf band wagon for about 2 years now. Even when he started fantastically last year(?) I still don’t think he has what it takes to really take the next step forward. I don’t mind him in the rotation, if he’s your number 4 pitcher and you can avoid using him as a SP if you were in the playoffs. He just doesn’t have the cajones to be a big game pitcher. yeah, he eats innings and isn’t Anthony Young horrible. He just is not one I want to be in the top 3 of the rotation. So, if he can be traded for something of value (AKA minor league pitcher ready to make the leap and another player), I’d consider it. His salary is starting to rise and the value vs. the return is really starting to diminish.
