Back to beer… That beer fest looks really cool, I wish ours hand bands but the positive was we only had microbrews (except for Sam Adams).
Hit up Brooklyn. My biggest surprise was Sam Adam’s Latitude 48 IPA’s. There are 3 of them and if you ask them they will tell you to try in a specific order. They were excellent. Many times my beer snootiness gets in the way and I’ve been looking past these for a couple months.
Dogfish had some wierd stuff at mine and the line was always crazy. Go to them early because we were at the 2nd of 3 sessions and they ran out of a couple choices.
Also at mine “Dales Pale Ale” which I’ve been trying to get forever was my favorite.
Funny, I’ve always wanted to try Dales, seen it on the shelves, heard great reviews, but never purchased it as it only comes in cans. I’m a snob, for sure.
Very excited about Breckenridge (vanilla porter is awesome), Dogfish head (not a fan of the raisen(?) beer, but the 60 minute and 90 minute are very good) New Belgium (my absolute fav. Mighty Arrow is the best, bar none! honestly, all their stuff is great), Brooklyn & Magic Hat will get my attention for sure. Heard good things about Victory. Flying Dog is decent, curious to see what they can offer.
And as for Sams, I’ve tried the IPA 48, or at least one of them. Was definitely good, but I can’t see myself picking that over the above mentioned brews.
St. Arnold (Texas beer) isn’t great, but they make one brew, called Fancy Lawnmower that is a wonderful summer brew. higly recommended after mowing the lawn, obviously.
I wish I can name the 3 but they have funky names (name of the hops used). One is REAL smokey, really good but not something to have a couple in a row. The second one they gave me had such a clean finish, I could pound them all day. Just googled and the one called “Hallertau” I believe is the one I liked.
Victory was at mine but didn’t get a chance to hit it. I had one last year and it was good. I can get it up here but always pick other things. I’ve had flying dog ale and was not a fan. I am not big one golden ales, I think their a little sour for my taste.
Gotta try Dales, don’t let the can fool you. I have read so many articles where they are the top rated.

My buddy has been pushing me to try home brewing. Ever tried it? If so, recommendations on places to get the stuff. He swears by Northern Brewer, but I’m checking my options before purchasing.
On flying dog, they had a pale ale that was good. I’d say my tastes are Pale Ales, IPAs, and then Belgians (Dubbles & Tripples), so take my comments for what they are worth. And while I do like hops, the Sam Adams imperial was way over the top hoppy. Tasted like i was chewing on a Christmas tree!

My Wife’s Step Mother got me a home brewing kit and recipe pack for Christmas along with a book. Read the book a couple times and it was really good (its at home I get the name for you). There are 2 things stopping me. One I need a bigger cooker like one of those turkey fryers. Two I am really afraid I will quit my job and pursue it as a business.
Ive been wanting to for a long time and I will probably jump in in August once my schedule frees up.

You don’t NEED a propane burner, but it helps tremendously. Jump in and you won’t be disappointed.

Speaking of Jumping in the only thing I felt was missing was a swim tank to recreate the scene for “Strange Brew”. You couldn’t keep me from making the plunge.
hell, I brew on an electric stove. It’s extremely annoying, but doable. I submitted my last beer to Sam Adams Long Shot.
I can’t believe I’m only catching the tail end of a beer thread. i hate missing beer threads.

I have a propane stove and my stove top is desgned in a way that it could handle that kind of pot. I just have no desire to trash my kitchen if I spill something.

Yeah, I brew on my stove, too. Once I move, hopefully I’ll have some outdoor space to setup my propane burner.
Just remember, the single most important thing about brewing is having patience. Especially during that first batch.

Ah, now that looks like a great place to have nearby. Looks like they’ll everything you could need for a long time.
You won’t. Eight of us went together it went from 1-4:30 and then we went out until 3am. I’m always the most responsible one and I was totally dragged home. I have 2 kids and am no longer in college and I had a hard time remembering that. Jamison shots were the soul crusher.
Allagash makes some really good Belgium style ales. I have to be in the mood for that type but when I am they are excellent.
My other favorite was from Left Hand Brewery and it was their Milk Stout. Probably too hot this time of year for it but it was killer.
Allagash is great, and I miss them now that they’ve pulled out of NY state.
Salty, in Boston did you get a chance to try 3 Heads Brewing? They started last year here in Rochester, and I know they went to that festival.

Just looked them up and I didn’t even see them. There were over 50 breweries and not enough time.
Ahh. There was one in Philly last weekend too. I’m waiting for the NY Brewfest to post info. Last year while I was there I was on Beer Money on SNY. It’s always awesome.
I was asked three! I botched the third one. I keep meaning to blog about it but I never see my episode. I finally caught one the other day that was the one at Brewfest but I missed the first five minutes. but i wasn’t in the last 25. Hope I didn’t get cut.
So, what’s the lowdown on the catchers that were drafted? Just curious given how little catching talent our system has right now, plus the uncertainty of Thole as a long term option.
They took 4, a couple late, the earliest being the 14th round Carrillo out of Arizona State. They took Phillip Evans in the 15th round who is listed as a shortstop but could be moved to catcher, which could be something to keep an eye on.
As for immediate help, there isn’t much. There’s no one in AAA or AA that could be a primary catcher in the big leagues. Last year’s 3rd round pick Blake Forsythe is struggling to get to .220 in Savannah. Albert Cordero hasn’t hit in Savannah either. Francisco Pena isn’t having a great year in St. Lucie, but 2 months is too early to judge him after missing last year. Also in St. Lucie is Juan Centeno, who’s hitting .320ish, but I’m not sure how good he is defensively, plus he’s 5’9” 172, so durability could be an issue.
