Alot of hype over this vaughn kid…

All six are VERY deserving of the all-star status. All are having great years. No real snubs, except for perhaps Erik Goeddel, who’s now on the DL. Savannah has a 3.5 game lead in the SAL South division, with a magic number of 9 to clinch the first half title for the second consecutive year.

      Goeddel is on the dl?

He has a shoulder strain. They moved him from the rotation to a piggy back role in the bullpen to cut down on his innings, but may have done it too late, or his shoulder did not handle the transition to coming in during the middle of the game. Either way, he’s been out for almost two weeks, after pitching great throughout May.

Although the production from Vaughn has been very encouarging, why haven’t the Mets haven’t pushed him a little. Obviously the Mets consider him a prospect, so why then is he still in A-ball at 22?

I just worry that his numbers may be slightly inflated by playing against younger, less experienced competition.

I’ve been saying the same thing. He’s the only major college program player on this team at his age (if you count Shields you have to account for his injury history). Other players his age are either pitchers or catchers (different balls of wax) or international players getting used to competition.

As Bryan has pointed out, the St. Lucie OF is crowded. But I can’t see guys like Juan Lagares taking preference…

A couple of things. First, the new FO has a policy they are following pretty stringently not to rush guys, despite his manager from last year, Wally Backman, advocating starting him in St. Lucie. Secondly, the biggest factor is the Mets outfield depth. Vaughn was kept back in Savannah in large part because Den Dekker and Puello, also top prospects, are playing everyday there. There also needs to be at bats for Lagares and Zapata, both are having great first halves. So, there was no room Vaughn in St. Lucie. When the first half ends and St. Lucie and Savannah are finished with their playoff push, Den Dekker and possibly Lagares and Zapata will move to Binghamton and Vaughn will go to St. Lucie where we should get a decent idea of where he is at in his development.
