After tonight’s game, the Mets designated Nick Evans for assignment. A corresponding roster move will be made Friday.
The Mets recalled Lucas Duda from Buffalo (AAA). Duda has hit .389 (14-36) with five HR and 12 RBI in his last 10 games with the Bisons.

Is his release inevitable ? I know he can opt to become a minor league free agent

I think he goes back to Buffalo. There’s little reason to just release him from the organization, and Buffalo could use all the help they can get. Better to keep Evans than to keep signing older guys out of the independent leagues.

He will go back to Buffalo most likely because no one else wants him. I have never understood the overstated love for Evans. He is what he is.

I was wondering about that. I really have no idea the extent of injuries among the other clubs. Someone might be looking for a replacement utility player that has some ML experience.

I can sense Stick polishing up his Duda Fathead right now, lighting candles and incense around it.

If Duda wants to make his mark – prove he can hit up here, now would be the time.
I know he’s been hitting well down there of late. Just wondering if he’s going to wind up like Evans eventually.

too early to tell but the difference is Evans has been a pretty bad hitter in AAA too. Duda needs to start strong in order to stick here since Bay will be back in the lineup after this series.
The only way Duda sticks is if he hits and going 1-12 with 5K in the 3 games he gets will not help his cause.

I though Bay was probably back in the lineup tomorrow. Was reported as 2-days right?

That’s what I read. ‘A couple of days on the bench for Bay’.

I assume Duda will get tonight in LF, maybe a day at 1B, then a day in RF to rest Beltran, etc.
or he will start tonight, then spend the next week as a PH. Who knows for sure with Terry?

the way I see it Duda will get the start in LF tonight and Saturday and then give Beltran a day off on Sunday.
either way unless Duda rakes for those 3 days, he’s going back to AAA very soon…

evans makes more money in buffalo than another teams minors. so most likely his agent asks around, and if there are no indications anyone will give him a ML job, back to buffalo!
and maybe this time Duda is ready. Plenty of guys spend a couple years going up and down, playing in short doses, before they finally settle in and click.
it does seem to be a met fan trait though to look at a few weeks/50 ABs and decidee a guy stinks and write him off!

Duda tears up the AAA level but hasn’t done much in the majors. Maybe he’s not a good bench guy.
I don’t remember much, but how is his defense? Is it good enough to replace Beltran at RF next season?

If memory serves, I thought he projected more to LF due to lack of a cannon of an arm.
Duda, Pagan, Fmart for your starting OF next year

He actually showed a very strong arm last year. Not quite sure it is vlad guerrero cannon, but much better than expected.
the slight lack of footspeed is probably what will shove him over to LF.
And nice that you have just wished Bay into the cornfield! Nice.
