You know what I’m referring to right? You watched last nights game-as did I.
You know why the Mets lost?
Because there is no way they can sweep in Atlanta.
Because Jose Reyes can’t bat 1st, 3rd, 6th and 9th in the batting order.
Because the Baseball Gods want to keep the Mets at .500
Because Chipper Jones is the Anti-Christ to all Met fans-and even his replacements do in the Mets.
Because K-Rod had to blow his second save against the one team that kills the Mets.
Because Lucas Duda thought he was in little league and wanted to catch every ball in the infield. Even if the ball was hit to third base, I’m convinced that Duda would have been there.
Because the Mets are the only team that can lose this way. A balked run home is like a perfect game in the Fall Classic, it happens once in a lifetime.
Because you secretly like to be in pain around 10:30 and watching the Met game was the best way to accomplish this.
Because you didn’t sell your soul and become a Yankee fan.
Because your a Met fan and nothing comes easy.
Becasue regardless of what happened last night, you as well as I, will watch the game tonight!

Never mind the fact that:
- RA only went 4 innings and gave up 6 runs
- Mets can’t get a hit with bases loaded to save their lives
- Frankie blew the save
- Ike should have let Wright catch the pop up
- DJ cannot balk home the winning run
I blame Chipper. Seriously, at 39 Larry has more broken down body parts then he’s got working parts. At an age where most guys in his position would be a shell of their former self, probably wouldn’t still be playing third or doing much with the bat, Chipper played the entire game at 3rd and drove in 5 runs on 3 hits including a HR.
I’m not sure they’ll ever be a Met killer quite like Chipper. When he finally does hang up his cleats, I’ll be applauding and not because of a long and successful career as he heads towards the HOF. Can he just retire already? I’ll throw the party.

sometimes, stuff happens. Frustrating game none the less.
One quibble I did have was with Terry and the pen management. I know he played for the K Rod end game, but when you only get 4 out of the SP, going 1 inning and out with RPs is dangerous. Acosta for the 5th in a tie game, 8 pitches, and pulled for a lead off PH? should have been playing long man there. Potentially bit him when K Rod spit the bit and he hit the 10th with just the 2 guys that went 2 innings the day before.
but damn, I wanted this sweep. Just have to take it out on the angels and As.

Technically, there was another balk-off back in 1989…

Off topic:
FMart is hurt again. He was removed from last night’s game with right knee soreness. I’m not even sure if that’s the same knee diagnosed with arthritis but if you have OA in one knee, chances are almost 100% you’re going to have it in both sooner rather than later.
I naturally assumed FMart would be the heir apparent to Beltran but that’s looking more and more unlikely. It just doesn’t appear that he’ll ever play a full season healthy.
Starting to wonder what it would take to pry Logan Morrison from FL. I know he’s a LF, not sure if he’s ever played in RF. Heck, move Bay to RF.
The Marlins owner Loria reads like a little Hitler and the latest controversy he created with the firing of their hitting coach and Morrison speaking out probably means Morrison is next to go.
According to a recent Yahoo sports article:
‘Along with David Samson, his stepson-turned-team president, Loria has run managers, players and personnel out of town with incessant meddling.’
‘Morrison has seen the corrosive effect of Marlins ownership. One source relayed the story of how Samson would approach struggling young players and threaten a trip to the minor leagues if they didn’t start playing better. Another source said Bobby Valentine was set to manage the Marlins until he met with Samson and left saying he’d rather work in the Gulag.’
‘Valentine, it turns out, was too honest for the Marlins. So was Joe Girardi, who Loria canned. And Fredi Gonzalez, who had the temerity to criticize Loria’s pet, franchise shortstop Hanley Ramirez, whose arrogance has infected the Marlins’ clubhouse for years. Unless Morrison falls in line, he’ll go, too, because the truth is a liability in South Florida, and no amount of home runs or RBIs will remedy that.’
I wonder what prospects it would take?

I’d accept LoMo on this team, for sure! I think he’d be expensive though.

How about someone like Zach Lutz and a lower prospect or two?

LoMo seems to be the real deal, is cheap and a major leaguer. I’d do that, personally. And Lutz is for the most part blocked, no? Unless he makes a switch out to the OF or Wright isn’t going to be in the plans past his contract.

I’d be willing to throw in FMart in that deal as well.
Lutz, FMart and a lower level prospect?
Make the call, Sandy.

lutz is an interesting case. Similar to havens in that he has missed too much time, but when in, has really produced. I forget what his latest issue is, but if he can finally overcome the trips to the DL, he has ML potential.
and like last year with Havens, most likely if Lutz had not been out with some silly injury last month he would have gotten much of the PT at 3B when Wright hit the DL

I’d be willing to throw Fmart in about any deal at this point.

I thought this was going to be the year he finally made a move. He has been playing well I beleive. But at this point, I am willing to write him off also. If he ever surfaces (anywhere) as a viable ML player, I will be surprised.
I am actually more annoyed that Kirk N. hurt his shoulder, otherwise he could be the one up here playing come August.
at this point, I don’t think they have any viable, LT option to plug into RF if Beltran leaves. certainly not this year, and the way it is looking, not by next year either.
I could easily see a stop gap 1 year veteran guy signed for RF for next year at this pace.

I really though that one place we had depth for the minors was OF. Turns out it’s 2B. Who’d have thought that?

Here was the article I got this from:
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-passan_morrison_marlins_petty_ownership_061611
‘Owner Jeffrey Loria is Henry VIII of his fiefdom, and his latest uncalled-for beheading left popular hitting coach John Mallee out of a job. Morrison, the talented 23-year-old left fielder whose candor has won him a devoted Twitter following, said Loria personally called for the firing. Loria called him into his office and essentially told him to shut up.’
‘“I was asked a question, I told the truth,” Morrison told the Palm Beach Post. “But I guess I don’t do that anymore.”
I don’t know exactly what Morrison said. Probably have to go to one of the Marlin’s site to get that.

Loria sounds like this generation’s George Steinbrenner, w/o his deep pocketbook.

Loria’s team has a relatively low payroll and is among the bottom five in sources of revenue . Steinbrenner, OTOH, produced a constant winning franchise coupled with a large payroll and is the top revenue producer in baseball. The Yankee’s team value is approximately 1 billion greater than the Mets. Through all the insanity that Steinbrenner brought to the Bronx he did purchase a legendary franchise that had hit rock bottom and was one of the laughing stocks of baseball and built it into the Microsoft of baseball.

interesting that the 2 big release guys for the Mets (that some people, at least with Castillo, thought was wrong) have both done nothing. Ollie disappeared into AA, and Castillo got a quick ST look, and since then seems to have retired,
well, probably no one complained about Ollie, but it was an interesting speculation about whether he would find any ability elsewhere. Guess not.

I don’t understand why you guys think you can get LoMo for a bag of balls. He’s a potential 20-25 HR, .300 BA, 380-400 OBP guy yearly. Zach Lutz is hardly even a prospect and FMart is damaged goods.

Agreed. If he was on the team he would be the second best offensive player. Also the Marlins have a great knack of getting players in return.

Good point. Marlins aren’t going to just hand him to a divison rival.
They’re tough negotiators.
Hanley and Anibal Sanchez for Beckett comes to mind.

not to mention he’s a 1B playing LF — 2 positions that are not open for the Mets (as much as we’d like LF to be open).

Well, I wasn’t advocating getting him for a bag of balls.
I thought Lutz, FMart and another prospect or two was fair but maybe I’m wrong.
I did look at some minor league stats and it indicated position as ‘OF’ so I thought maybe he played both corners. However, if he is really just a LF, then just move Bay to RF – LOL.

well i meant out of our everyday lineup.
if he were available im sure we would have to give up Flores or Puello (which I really have no problem with but i am bias since I don’t put any stock into those type of players)

Yes, last night’s finish was indeed putrid. Getting to and above .500 is like kryptonite. This is why I still change the channel when K-rod comes in to close even despite 19 in a row or whatever it was. I understand closer’s blow saves, it happens, but Franky can leave one’s nerves frayed. As a counterpoint to the closers blow saves thought, I wondered after the game to what degree is this .500 barrier an artifact of trying to learn to win again after recent years of downward spirals. That, when it comes to it they are still trying to get the mindset that winning should become a habit and with that winning just to get to .500 should not be the measure of success. Then again, I think it just boiled down to closers will blow games. In retrospect, after their start and all the injuries maybe this is the best to expect from the team until Wright and Ike are added back to the mix. Hold the fort boys, hold the fort.
