A few notes before we begin: Chin-lung Hu (who?) apparently has the “yips”, and has left Buffalo to return to Port St. Lucie to try and work things out. Scott Kazmir is available, and for the record would be a great and much needed addition to the Buffalo rotation, and a better option to start a major league game than anybody else in Buffalo. Buffalo 7, Norfolk 4
The Bisons win as they pay a visit to the former Met affiliate. Chris Schwinden went 5.2 innings, giving up 3 runs (1 earned), but gave up 8 hits and 3 walks, although he did strike out 7. Dale Thayer got the win, and Ryota Igarashi the save, as both recorded 4 outs. Igarashi struck out 3 and walked 1. Zach Lutz is quickly making a case for a big league promotion; he had 3 hits including a double and 2 RBI’s. He’s hitting .375 since coming back from injury. Val Pascucci, Luis Figueroa, and Michael Fisher all had 2 hits. Nick Evans returned to AAA with a double and an RBI. Fernando Martinez left the game early, apparently limping off the field, but we won’t jump to any conclusions until we hear more.
Richmond 11, Binghamton 9
Brad Holt got beat up pretty bad. He gave up 8 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks in 3.2 innings of work. His ERA jumped above 5 as a result. The B-Mets had 17 hits, but could not come all the way back after Holt put them behind (Holt himself had 2 out those hits and an RBI for what it’s worth). Jordany Valdespin was 3-6 and homered twice, driving in 4. Reese Havens had 2 hits including a double, and once struck out once. Josh Satin, who is slowly turning into the B-Mets everyday third baseman, had 3 hits.
Palm Beach 9, St. Lucie 6, 7 innings, game 1
The Mets jumped ahead with 3 runs in the first, but Scott Moviel gave those runs right back and then left after 3 plus innings. He gave up 6 runs (4 earned) and the “all-star” took his 5th loss of the year. Michael Powers gave up 3 more runs, which didn’t help. Juan Lagares, Jefry Marte, and Pedro Zapata all had 2 hits. Marte as well as Wilmer Flores drove in 2 runs each.
St. Lucie 6, Palm Beach 5, 7 innings, game 2
Jack Egbert gave up 5 runs on 10 hits through the first 4 innings, but then Jeffrey Kaplan, Josh Edgin, and Nick Carr each pitched a scoreless innings, Edgin got the win and Carr the save. Juan Lagares and Cesar Puello both had 3 hits, and Wilmer Flores added 2 more. St. Lucie now has 3 days off for the all-star break and will then play the final 3 games of the first half schedule (don’t ask me who came up with that one). With 3 games to play, their magic number to win their division is 2.
Greenville 3, Savannah 2
Taylor Whitenton was very good yet again, just 2 runs on 1 hits through 6 innings. He was only hurt by his 3 walks, but did strike out 5. Michael Weldon pitched 2 scoreless frames before Gabriel Zavala surrendered the walk-off win of the Drive. Blake Forsythe and Alonzo Harris had 2 hits each, but there wasn’t much else from the Gnats bats. Cory Vaughn was 0-4 after a day off.
Both games in the Dominican were rained out.

I’ll jump to the conclusion on FMart now. Right knee soreness (and I’m not sure if that’s the bad knee or not). I thought he’d be the heir apparent in RF but his inability to stay healthy has me doubting that now. OA in one or both knees just does not bode well.
I speculated this on the previous post but I wonder what it would take to pry Morrison from FL? Zach Lutz maybe?
Giving Loria’s style of ownership, his recently calling Morrison under the carpet for criticizing the firing of the batting coach and his twitter account, I’m thinking Morrison is not long for FL anyway. Loria has a habit of getting rid of anyone who remotely disagrees with him.

There’s almost no chance the Marlins would trade Morrison. And if they were stupid enough to, Zach Lutz for sure isn’t getting it done. Not even close. Lutz isn’t even a prospect.

Very interesting thought. I have no idea what the Marlins have at 3B in their farm system, but for now they have mediocre journeymen Dobbs and Helms there, so Lutz might make sense for them, but I think it might take more than that to trade for Morrison. Lutz is getting to the point where he’s MLB ready but has a long history of injuries, so if I were the Marlins I’d want something else to protect against Lutz never being able to play full time b/c of injury.

I kind of figured that. Just threw out Lutz as sort of the center piece. Maybe a lower level prospect or two as well.
However, I didn’t realize Lutz has a history of injuries as well. Dang….can’t anyone in this organization stay healthy?

Morrison is a potential All-Star bat. There’s no chance you get him for Lutz. Probably not for any of our prospects expect maybe Harvey. Also the Marlins have Matt Dominguez in the minors who could contend for a Gold Glove today if brought up.
