From the always reliable, never sensational Star Ledger:
http://www.nj.com/mets/index.ssf/2011/06/mets_jose_reyes_says_no_to_sup.html
—————————————————————————————–
Did he MEET with Boras or others and seriously consider switching this year, as Fox’s fair and balanced Ken Rosenthal suggested? Or did they simply run into each other at a stadium?
Is it true that Boras “is speaking with Reyes about becoming his representative, according to major league sources” or has Boras just again called Jose to be told no?
As this space and many others have pointed out, Jose-despite injuries and mental lapses-has never been anything other than a model citizen. Married with children, never involved in any incident which has shined a negative light on himself or the team, always in top shape, always eager to play.
Jose’s agents have a very close relationship with him, and one is reportedly godfather to two of Jose’s kids.
Jose’s last deal was very fair to the Mets, certainly might have left some money on the table, and provided security to both sides for years. Jose seems to truly like playing for the Mets, the only organization he has ever known. Citi Field’s dimensions are literally ideal for Jose’s game. He seems to enjoy being a tandem with David Wright, and as good as they looked together celebrating in 2006, they’d look even better co-hoisting the Mets’ third World Series trophy someday.
If we are to take Jose’s words today at face value-and nothing we have ever seen or heard from Jose suggests we shouldn’t-than this story was once again simply a case of an obnoxious journalist working hard to create controversy where none exists.
Did anything happen here other than the slithering, amoral Boras again calling Jose and trying to pry him away from agents who are practically family to the Reyeses with the result being Jose firmly saying “no” once again?
Probably not.
Fair and balanced indeed.

Just to add some pieces to this story. Rosenthal did clarify for what it’s worth this morning what he initially reported. And Reyes did say that he knew of a Boras attempt to come out to meet with him but that they only spoke a few times on phone and that Reyes acknowledged that Boras has been after him for quite some time.
Ken Rosenthal:
One clarification on Reyes: I initially reported Boras met with him. Removed that from story after hearing conflicting info.

Ken Rosenthal:
However, gist of story remains same: Boras has been talking with Reyes about representing him.

Reyes then went to to just confirm that he and Boras have spoken on the phone and that Boras has long wanted him to be his client but that Reyes is happy where he is.
“Scott Boras went to Colorado [to visit me in early May], but we didn’t have a chance to meet together. I saw him at the stadium and said hello, but nothing else happened. I’m happy with my agents.”
“[Scott and I] talked a couple of times on the phone. He’s always tried to get me since the minor leagues, but like I said, I’m happy with my agents.”

Ken Rosenthal:
#Mets’ Reyes told writers in NY there is “no chance” he is leaving Peter Greenberg for Scott Boras. Acknowledged talks with Boras.

Yes, so Rosenthal reported the non-story as a story, to get hits to his site and to get recognition, when there was NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING to report.
Keep reading every word from Rosenthal as if it is anything other than what Stick describes it to be below.
Keep reading his irresponsible drivel as if it means something.
Sigh…..

I’m not sure who reads Rosenthal. Not me, I just wanted to share what some may feel is worth noting to them or not. Since RDM is reporting the story.
Personally This was a non story till I heard from Reyes admit it himself and since Reyes had not spoken on it last night I didn’t post it. Not that anyone else shouldn’t of. That is to each their prerogative if they wish just saying my take on it.

Nothing to do really with Fox, they are all bad. Until the media comes up with a way to pay these guys by the hour instead of the click then it will continue to get worse. Got to make money somehow I guess.

Well, true to a point—every network has an agenda which reflects its ownership and managing editor(s)—but Fox is the only one which trumpets laughably ridiculous and untrue slogans like “We report, you decide” and “Fair and balanced.”
They’re not fair OR balanced anymore than Bill Maher or Keith Olbermann are.
