Last Night on the Farm – 6/18/11

A lot of losing on the farm last night:

Norfolk 11, Buffalo 3

Josh Stinson continues to make us all wonder what he’s doing on the 40-man roster; 7 runs on 7 hits through 3 innings.  Mike O’Connor pitches 3 more innings and gives up 4 more runs.  The Bisons had 11 hits, and all were singles.

Binghamton 7, Trenton 4

Jeurys Familia pitched well enough to get the win; but didn’t because of the bullpen.  He went 6 innings, giving up 2 runs, striking out 10.  The Yankees Kei Igawa got the start of Trenton, and Jordanny Valdespin took him deep to start the game, his 8th of the year.  Raul Reyes and Allan Dykstra also had home runs.  Dykstra had 4 RBI’s.

Greenville 5, Savannah 4

The Gnats continue to lose, but lucky for them they have already wrapped up the division title.  Ryan Fraser gave up 5 runs on 5 hits through 5 innings and took his 5th loss of the season.  Cory Vaughn singled and drove in a run but also struck out twice.

Staten Island 3, Brooklyn 2

Carlos Vazquez gave a nice effort, lasting 4.2 innings, giving up just 2 runs on 4 hits, while striking out 4.  The Mets 33rd round pick Tyson Seng pitched 2 shutout innings from the bullpen, striking out 3.  Daniel Muno, Brandon Brown, Travis Taijeron, and Amauris Valdez all had 2 hits each.

DSL Giants 6, DSL Mets1 4

The Mets youngsters committed 4 errors, which was the difference in the game.  Right fielder Joan Decena had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s, he’s hitting .348.

DSL Rays 9, DSL Mets2 2

No pitching, no defense, and no hitting.  Jorge Rivero had 2 hits.

FSL North 5, FSL South 3

Plenty of Mets played in the Florida State League all-star game, despite being on the losing side.  Darin Gorski got the start, but gave up 2 runs, but only 1 was earned because of a Matt Den Dekker error.  Jeffrey Kaplan pitched a scoreless 4th inning.  Scott Moviel gave up 2 runs on 3 hits in the 5th and was the losing pitcher.  Matt Harvey and Nick Carr did not pitch.  At the plate, Den Dekker was 0-3 with 2 strikeouts.  Pedro Zapata was also 0-3.

Happy Father’s Day everybody!

Famillia looking good. Here’s hoping he stays solid as he moves up through the system. We’re going to need good pitching sooner rather than later.

Speaking of….I’ve seen his last name spelled at least 3 different ways depending on what site I’m looking at. I’m going to assume since you follow the minor leagues so closely Bryan the spelling you have listed is the correct one.
    Honestly,

    1. Bryan

I go with “Familia” which is what it says at his profile page on minorleaguebaseball.com. Honestly, I worry more about misspelling his first name than his last name.

One would wonder why Darin Gorski wasn’t sent up??? any thoughts on that??

    1. Bryan

There’s no real reason to rush him. With Harvey they’re more anxious to push him, but with Gorski, they can afford to let him make a start or two after they won the first have. Remember, they have to reorganize the Binghamton rotation and fit in Gorski on regular rest or longer, so that’s a little more complicated than bringing up a position player.

Sure you would like to give the guy a challange at the next level eventually, but the key is he is working on perfecting his pitches and mechanics, and he can do that just as well in PSL.

as long as it isn’t a case of just using his FB because that is all he needs, keeping him in PSL for a little longer won’t matter.

        same deal for harvey.

thanks for input—I just see how well he is doing and how hard he is working, and would really like to see him moving up sometime soon. I know there is a ‘master plan’ in the works so I will just sit back and wait for the changes to be made.
