According to a report by Adam Rubin of ESPN New York Jose Reyes has informed the Mets through his agent Peter Greenberg that he did not want the distraction of speaking about a contract in-season. This coming after Mets GM Sandy Alderson called Greenberg last week to initiate discussion to get a sense of Reyes demands.
Greenberg who was out of the country at the time Alderson reached out to him spoke with Reyes this Monday after which Reyes informed his agent to relay his desire not to negotiate during the season.
Reyes has been consistent throughout the season that he just wants to focus on playing baseball right now during the season so this really comes as no surprise.
Apparently Alderson decided today to make the contact he made with Reyes agent public to prevent continued questions about when and if the Mets would reach out to Reyes during the season.
