Tonight’s Game Brought To You By “Gee That Was Quick Make-up Remover”

4.0 innings, 3 hits, 4 runs, 6 walks, 1 strike out, 1 loss.  Yes the make  up came off tonight in Gee’s start.  Obviously he has exceeded all expectations but he was honestly due for a Pelfrey stinker.  Lets hope that tonight got that out of the way and he can continue to develop into a very solid back-end guy.  Gee threw 87 pitches in 4 innings with only 45 for strikes.  Considering how many walks he gave up the 4 runs could have been considered an accomplishment in itself.  However, Carrasco finished the deal giving up 3 more runs in the next 2 innings amassing 7 runs vs the Mets depleted offense.  7 runs for the A’s in itself is an accomplishment.

The Mets did try to battle back scoring a run in the 4th to make it 4-1 on a Sac Fly from slugger Tejada to plate Pagan.  The Mets then gave up 3 more runs to make it 7-1  before a HR, what am I typing here, a HR from Jason Bay made it 7-2.  In the 8th inning Pagan lead off with a walk and the guy wearing Bay’s jersey belted a HR triple to plate Pagan making it 7-3.   Bay finished  3-3 with a walk, single, triple and HR falling just a double short of the cycle.  THE STREAK IS OVER at 89.  I have not checked but Bay’s SLG % may have doubled in one night, should be up to .275.  The Mets loaded the bases with Bay at 3rd but left the bags full after a Thole ground out to 2nd.

The Mets fall to 3 games below .500 with 2 more to play vs the A’s.  Tomorrow’s game features Dickey vs Gio Gonzalez (2.69 ERA )

Better recap:  Gameday

Hey look at it this way. Gee is still undefeated vs the National League.

Man, Gee’s control was all over the place today. Parnell’s control wasn’t all that great either, but I expect him to suck.

The Mets have slipped a game behind Washington in the battle for the crucial 3rd spot in the NL East.

Many of the optimistic extremists that tend to criticize others that don’t quite share their baseball outlook guaranteed the Mets dismantling of the two AL West Coast teams this weekend. They predicted the Mets would take a hammer to the Angels and A’s but alas it seems it’s the visitors that have taken “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” to the Mets. However, there are still two games yet to be played so perhaps the Mets can turn this home stand 180 degrees.

When you’re retired every day feels like a weekend.

Well, I converted from optimist extremist last summer.

I felt that the stretch of games beginning with the Braves and Brewers would determine the season. They did go 4-2 against the Braves and Brewers, but are now 1-3 against the Angels and A’s. I think the level of play in the AL these days is probably as much higher or nearly as much higher as the level of play in the NL was in the 60s and 70s.

Tex and Det and the Yanks next?

Yikes. We better win the next two.

Help me out. Why is 3rd place “crucial”? They are not winning the division this year and honestly any talk of WC is just for shits and giggles. Thus I really don’t care where they finish in the standings as long as we are seeing good hard-nosed baseball. That gives me much more hope for the future than just being ahead of a floundering Marlins team… lol, and worrying about the got nothing to lose Nationals.

        Welcome back.

I would guess he is being sarcastic about the 3rd place remark.

I agree that unless they are above .500 on August 1st, talk of playoffs is, well, Jim Mora would know what to say about playoffs? PLAYoffs?!?!?

Still, I WOULD like them to finish at .500 and in 3rd at least.

Finishing behind the Nats would not be a good sign for the future nor for team morale, and we know the Marlins are not going to continue losing like this.
