On a day that Mets fans found out that Ike Davis, not Carlos Beltran, may be the one in need of micro fracture surgery, RA Dickey pitched what may have been his best game of the season only to share in misfortune. 8 innings, 1 run, 3 hits, 1BB and 9 K’s. RA left the game with the score tied 1-1. The Mets scored in the 8th after a Reyes triple and Justin Turner RBI knock to make it 2-1. Krod entered in the 9th trying to protect the one run lead and blew the save, his 3rd of the year. Still a great percentage but unfortunately two of those three have been back to back when the Mets need the wins the most. Krod struck out the first A’s batter but then gave up a double to RF to Coco Crisp, he followed with a strikeout of Matsui for the 2nd out only to go to the FB well one too many times giving up a hard ground ball right past an out stretched Turner for the RBI. Dickey’s ERA over his last 7 starts is well below 2.50 so perhaps Dickey is proving that last year was indeed no fluke. Dickey however has only managed a 2-2 record over that streak, hard luck Dickey.
The Mets would get two on in the bottom of the 9th with a single from Willie Harris and a walk to Ruben Tejada only to end on a foul tip strike out from Pagan.
From there the Mets and A’s saw a scoreless 10th. In the 11th Byrdak came in and retired only 1 of the 3 batters he faced and was hooked for Beato with runners on 1st and 2nd. Beato struck out the first batter he faced and got the next batter to ground out softly back to the mound. The Mets threatened in the bottom of the 12th but Jason Pridie grounded out with the bases loaded to end the inning.
In the 13th inning after a clean inning from Parnell the Mets were again trying to drive in the winning run (15 runners left on base for the game). After a strike out from Paulino, the all hit no field brothers Duda and Murphy singled to put runners on 1st and 2nd. An out from Pagan brought up Jose who was walked for MR >>>>>> RBI Justin Turner. Turner would add hit by pitch to his resume of RBI to end the game.

Game of inches and I’m glad Turner’s thigh had just enough inches to get hit as he kind of, not really good disguised, leaned into one.
RA pitched a very good game. Deserved the win.
BP was surprising good, with the exception of Frankie of course.
Be nice to take the series tomorrow, if they get the game in. Weather looks pretty bad.
And ugh….whoever thought the term microfracture surgery would be applied to anyone on this team this year not named Beltran?

I can’t even think about Ike any more. Just gonna get me all worked up again!
and Frankie needs to go. If his contract is going to prevent them from keeping reyes, or adding another “real” player next year, make it a priority. He does not look at all close to what he did earlier in the year (and not just based on these last two BS BSs), and I have a bad feeling you are going to see a lot more of them in the 2nd half. No real desire to see it continue next year on a team that otherwise is in rebuild mode.
send him to the yankees to set up. win win.
