He’s a Big Ole Duda: Mets Pound Out 8 in the 6th, Get Win.

Lucas Duda finally got going  today and he did it in a big way.  4-5 with 3 doubles, 4 RBI and 10 feet from a Mets grand-slam Duda d showed the offense today that makes up for his sub-par defense.  Coming into today’s game Duda was 7/32 since his recall with only 2 extra base hits and 4 RBI flashing an OPS of .520 in 37 PA.  Today’s output raised his average to .228 and his OPS to .608.

The Mets started off their Texas sized offensive explosion in the 1st inning.  After 2 singles from Reyes and Harris a struggling Beltran came to bat and belted a triple to RF that got by Cruz and plated 2.  Murphy got Beltran home with a sac-fly and Niese was given a 3-0 lead.

After an error by normally sure handed Beltre in the 3rd allowed Harris to reach, Duda later doubled scoring 2 and was later driven in by Thole making the lead 6-0.  In the 4th inning Niese, who pitched very well over 5 2/3 but may have not been feeling well in the Texas heat (official report pulled for precautionary reasons due to a rapid heart beat), gave up back to back HR to Beltre and Youngmaking the score 6-2.

The 6th inning was a monster as the first 8 Mets batters reached base and before the first out the Mets had scored 7 runs.  Run down:  Reyes single, Harris single, double steal, Beltran single, Murphy single, Pagan walk, Duda double, Thole double (both were a few feet away from clearing the wall), Tejada sac-fly.

Due to some runs against Parnell and Carrasco the final would be 14-5 in what was no doubt the Mets biggest offensive output of the season, 17 hits 14 runs yet 0 HR.

Tomorrow the Mets take on Texas again in the heat (3:05 start) with 7-1 Dillon Gee taking on 6-2 Derrek Holland.

    Loving me some duda!

I think we have established that he is a slow starter, but if you are patient and give him about 30 ABs to get settled in, he turns into a monster!

Between 1B and DH, he should get to play the next 4 games at least. Really hope to see him keep some hitting going.

also nice to see him hit the close to GS off a lefty.

gotta admit, in the current lineup, he has the most raw power, and is really the only guy with any HR power other than Beltran.

Stick buddy, it’s one game. Even Jason Bay had a good game recently. Lets just sit back and see what he does while Ike/Wright are out. He will most likely still not play every day when Turner gets back.

Hey I’ll take it either way

just the start of something big. book it.

even in AAA, putting up an OPS of 1.00+ shows an ability to hit.

As I believe you’ve noted before Duda’s a guy who alway’s took awhile to adjust to the next level move up. Typically would fall back, then adjust, then excel. Different deal adjusting in the show but I’ll even take a nice hot streak now to keep them in the mix from now till Wright gets back. If it ends up being the beginning of a career all the better.

even Terry seems to agree with me:

“Lucas Duda is swinging the bat good and should start to gain some confidence because he has “a chance to be a real real good hitter.””

And yeah, 1st call up was rough at first, then he did real well. Seemed to happen too when he first went back to AAA (then he was hurt briefly).

I suspect we will see, since I expect he will be playing a lot coming up.

While Duda’s exploits were something for us Mets fans to revel over as TRS said it’s only one game. But he certainly earned a start in Sunday’s game to see if he can keep the hot bat going. Ride the wave.

LOL Stickguy you’re starting to sound like Ceetar. TRS check his IP address. LOL

and hopefully the heat doesn’t bother Gee. he is a Texas boy I think (El Paso maybe?) so he should be used to it!

Would you care to retract your statement MF6D?

“Today’s lineup has to be one of the worst I’ve ever seen.”

    1. stickguy

that’s why baseball is so hard to predict.

Haha I believe she did comment on it on Rusty’s thread!

I think she was still right though – terrible lineup, but sometimes those produce!

      1. saltygary

Yea I couldn’t agree more with her statement but all bets are off if the team can’t pitch.

      Ha!
I thought about that after the 3rd inning. Think I even mentioned in the dugout ‘boy, it’s nice to be wrong on this one’.

      “MF6D”

      ??

Damn, she just got two decades older, which would make her in her mid-40s, right??

      :-)

      1. stickguy

        40s? Try 80s!

        1. kingman 26

          OUCH!

He said it MF4D, not me!
