" There were fireworks during last nights Mets game - too bad many of us were not awake to see it !"
Yesterday was a special day. It marked this nations 235 birthday. Here in New York the early morning fog burned off, revealing the welcoming rays of the sun. Younger kids – as well as older adults took advantage of the pool in my condo complex, while many people had cookouts with their closest friends.
It was a beautiful day for baseball…..
So I have just one question to ask both MLB commissioner, Bud Selig, and the people that make the schedule for the league.
Why would you schedule the Mets/Dodgers game for 9:05 p.m ? Yes I know these West Coast games usually start at 10 p.m. for the most part, but this is a holiday. I feel that the MLB was inconsiderate to us Mets fans that live on the East Coast and cannot afford to stay up past 12 a.m to see the final out of a game because we have to be in work by 7 a.m.
In my opinion this game should have been scheduled for 4 p.m E.S.T – which means the game would have started at 1 p.m P.S.T. Would this have been so bad ?
All I know is I waited all day to see the game – and I was asleep by the second inning ….
So yeah I missed the fireworks that was the Mets com from behind 5-2 victory.
But a win is a win – whether I am awake – or asleep, So either way I’ll take it.
But I guess that is the MLBs attitude – “We schedule the games – you have to deal with it !”
And with that said…. HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!!
Mets alumni celebrating a birthday today includes :
Middle reliever for the Mets from ’87-’93. Jeff Innis is 49 (1962) . In his 7 year career with the Mets, Jeff went a combined 10-20with a E.R.A of 3.05 and five saves.
The New York Mets signed free agent outfielder, Cleon Jones on July 5, 1962. Cleon would make his Major League debut in the ’63 season, and he went on to be one of the most important players in Mets history. Who could forget his crouching on one knee catch which secured the Mets first World Series championship ?!?
Yesterday Mo Vaughn consumed a total of 70 hot dogs, 30 Bubba Burgers, 10 Sam Adams Summer Ale’s and a 2 liter of Diet Coke – and that was just breakfast !!!!

I can only assume this was for the Mets benefit.
They played a day game on Sunday at home but then had to fly out to the west coast for a game on Monday – no travel day. Therefore, they made the game at night to compensate for no travel day, right?
As it was, Sunday’s game was delayed 90 minutes b/c of weather and went into extra innings so they took off for the west coast late. As mentioned on the post game show by several, it was very possible they were no hit thru 5 innings b/c they were a little flat trying to shake off the late arrival and jet lag. If they played that game during the day yesterday, possible they sleep walk through all 9 innings.

I’m wondering if it had something to do with the Dodgers and that fireworks review they had planned after the game as well.
I know many would have preferred a day game yesterday. Then again, for those who had barbeques in the afternoon, they probably wanted to see a night game.
You know the saying: ‘You can’t please all of the people all of the time’…….

well, at this point, we should all just be used to a couple times during the year nothing but late games.
Not wanting to do the game during the day while people are at parties makes sense. And if they have fireworks, even more sense.

Well, Mets had to fly out to LA, so that’s one reason.
the other is that the Dodgers had fireworks, so that’s gotta be at night.
The other is mainly TV. more people probably watch these games at night after family obligations are over. or in local time, before the fireworks start.
I think a good compromise would be to make MLB At-Bat Audio free for all on holidays. Then you can at least stream baseball at your BBQ, even if it’s not your home team.

Heck, I’d be willing to pay for the MLB At-Bat app (video) if they didn’t have the dang local blackout rules.

I think they should play all the West Coast games at 7PM EST.

Ha! that would make my day.
I’m not gonna get much sleep this week if I want to see these games.
Of course, the home town teams on the west coast wouldn’t be too happy with that 4pm local start time…..

Unlike some up to this point, I never had any negative feelings about Bay – other than the obvious which was big bucks for not much results. I was always of the opinion that even though I didn’t expect 40 HRs, I certainly expected better than we saw early 2010 and so far this season.
I was always impressed though with Bay’s professionalism throughout. He never whined, even when dropped in the order. By all accounts, he’s worked extremely hard trying to right whatever is wrong and done so without a negative attitude or making excuses to the press or fans.
I’m pretty sure he’s never going to live up to that contract Omar gave him and what we’re seeing is probably more or less what we’re going to get for the duration.
Was happy to see him get the walk off winning hit Sunday and chuckled along with him last night on the post game when he talked about deja vu on that catch out in LF smashing into the wall last night.
But dang….would be nice to see some power in the middle of that lineup from him.

Tell me what’s wrong with that statement.

Hat tip to MMO for linking this.
It’s the video and the making of the video to “Let’sGo Mets Go’ from ’86.
Good stuff. To see this team, all our favorites, at the height of their hey day? Oh, the memories.
We’ll get back there someday but not sure there will ever be another team like that ’86 one.
