Binghamton played two last night, so there was a lot of action to go around. Let’s take a look…
Buffalo 11, Syracuse 6
A rare blowout for the herd. Nick Evans was 2 for 6, but Zach Lutz was 0 for 3 – though he did score twice. Miguel Bautista made his debut for the Bisons and got rocked for 4 runs in a third of an inning. His ERA is 108.00. Speaking of ERA, with two scoreless innings Ryoti Igarashi’s is now .87
Portland 6, Binghamton 3 (Game 1)
Hopefully this bodes well for Matt den Dekker. The fifth round pick out of Florida last year has had a rough time adjusting to Double A, but in Game 1 last night he was 3 for 4 with two doubles and a triple and three RBI. Josh Satin, now playing third, also had two doubles and is hitting .316.
Portland 15, Binghamton 5 (Game 2)
In all fairness, this game was being played kinda late at night. And in reality, it looked like the B-Mets got 4 runs in the first and then went to bed. Terrible night for the bullpen, as Randy Brooks got lit up for 7 runs in 1.1 innings and Brad Holt – poor Brad Holt – gave up 3 runs in an inning. IN the nightcap den Dekker was 0 for 1 with three walk, and Satin, Valdespin and Allen Dykstra went back to back to back.
St. Lucie 9, Fort Myers 2
The PSL Mets cracked out 16 hits and Juan Ligares (3 RBI), Jefry Marte (2 RBI) and Wilmer Flores (1 RBI) all had two apiece. The awesomely named Dock Doyle also had a solo HR.
Savannah 1, Rome 0
Ryan Fraser, Gabriel Zavala and Ronny Morel combined for the 4 hitter as the Sand Gnats won their 11th game in a row, their longest streak in over a decade. The lone run was knocked in by a Sam Honeck double in the 6th.
Staten Island 5, Brooklyn 5 (11 innings)
The Cyclones struck for three in the 8th to tie the game, but a hit, error and two wild pitches sunk their chance to make a move on the SI Yanks in the standing. Jeremy Gould was the victim again, both of his D and his own wildness.
Elizabethton 6, Kingsport 4
I think it is safe to say that while Akeel Morris is raw, he’s still worth keeping an eye on. The native of the US Virgin Islands is making his pro debut this year, and last night he gave up 4 runs (3 earned) in 5 innings, surrendered a home run, but also struck out an eye popping nine batters in that span. If he can put it all together the Mets might have themselves a find.

Akeel Morris has struck out 21 in 13 innings. That’s just a great stat.

Brad Holt….I haven’t heard/read anything about him that leads me to believe he’ll ever make his way to the majors. Maybe he’ll finally put it all together but it’s not looking good this year.

The shine has certainly been tarnished on his star. He just can’t throw strikes.
I wonder if he needs to see a sports pyschologist.

officially demoted to the pen. And he earned it.
Wanny mentions a shrink. Certainly a possibility.
I wonder though if it is mechanics? Some guys just don’t repeat their delivery well, and are erratic as a result. not having seen Holt in person or on tape really, I have no clue if that is the problem.
so, does he not want to throw a strike, or does he just not have enough control to do so?

From everything I’ve heard it seems to be mental, and a lack of focus, which is why he was moved to the bullpen. I think a sports psychologists is definitely worth trying.
