Reyes To DL; Evans To Join Team Again (Updated)

UPDATE: 1:50PM
Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes is tweeting that Reyes doctor recommends Reyes rest for 3 weeks.

Original Post: 9:58AM
According to many sources, Jose Reyes will be taking The Claw to the DL, with Nick Evans soon to join the team on the west coast.

While the whining and caterwauling against all things Met and medical will surely be heard in outer space, this is a move which is clearly prudent and obviously preferable to rushing him back.

Stay tuned; hopefully Jose will return shortly after the break and help the team continue on its impressive and lengthening run of very good baseball.

They’ve won four in a row with four more difficult games leading into the break; let’s win at least two of these four and see them no less than 47-44 to start the second half.

    This isn’t surprising.
If you feel a strain or pull in your hamstring and it doesn’t immediately go away in 1-2 days (as in it really was just a cramp type thing), the best course of action should be the DL.

As much as I wanted to see him play in that Philly series, I don’t want to see a repeat of his ’09 injury even more.

Here’s hoping with another 10 days rest it heals up just fine and he’s right back out there tearing up the base paths.

absolutley the prudent course of action, for all the reasons MF said.

I wonder if it’s a good thing for Alderson & Co to put Reyes on DL now… Conspiracy theory anyone?

when is the earliest he can return should he be placed on the DL?

Well, since it’s likely retro back to Sunday (’cause didn’t he play Sat?) that would make it 7/18 – right after the Philly series.

thats what I thought. He misses at most 11 games. I still would wait a few days since we don’t need the extra bench player cause I’d love to have him there for the philly series but o well.

That was why they were thinking about not DLing him at all. They thought they could get by until the ASB and then have him back for the Phillies.

I still think they could. I mean how many AB is Nick the Stick going to get? 1 or 2?

the only way they get hurt is if the game goes to extras but then again Chin-lung Hu has more hits than Evans this season so using Niese or Capuano is likely to yield a similar result.

            LMAO!!!

Yeah, honestly why not use Dickey in the event you need to use a guy like Evans?

i would have called up Josh Satin but that’s just me. I’d love to see what he could do given his MILB stats…

          4. Bryan

Agree. Not necessarily Satin, although he should have been considered, but I can’t believe they didn’t bring up a middle infielder, since Turner is their best bet behind Tejada to play short. That being said, Nick Evans deserved it, he got red hot as soon as he got back to Buffalo the last time.

One thing interesting that I haven’t seen mentioned, with Evans being the call up.

The obvious issue is that the only guy other than Tejada that can play SS is Turner.

But, Evans is also a waiver guy. So unless they figure on just keeping him until September roster expansion, or don’t care if he gets claimed off waivers, he is not the best guy for a couple of week “visit”

    1. TRS86

How many times has he cleared waivers though? 100? At this point no one is claiming him and so what if they do.

      1. stickguy

never know. Possible that his recent hot streak attracts the eye of some team short a RH bat.

OK, if so later Evans. He’s nothing more than AAA filler for us anyway.
