From Kingsport to Buffalo, someone hit a homerun in the Mets organization last night, including a couple well-known names. Also, Darin Gorski continues his success in the Florida State League while still waiting for that promotion.
Scranton Wilkes/Barre 6, Buffalo 2
Small signs of progress for Mark Cohoon, lasting 6 innings, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits, but 7 strike outs is an impressive number, especially for Cohoon. Zach Lutz was 2-4 and the only Bison to have a multi-hit game. Fernando Martinez hit a two-run homerun off Ivan Nova, but he also struck out twice.
Binghamton 10, Portland 4
The inconsistent Brandon Moore put together a nice outing, giving up just 1 run in 7 innings, while striking out 5. Josh Stinson tried to give the game away, giving up 3 runs in 2 innings, but the B-Mets offense had already built a sizeable lead. Matt Den Dekker hit his first AA homerun of the year, and drove in 2 runs. Jordanny Valdespin and Josh Satin each had 2 hits. Dusty Ryan had 3 hits, including a homerun.
St. Lucie 5, Fort Myers 1
Darin Gorski improved to 8-0 on the year, with 6 strong innings, giving up 1 run and striking out 4. Estarlin Morel pitched 2 shutout innings and Eric Niesen finished it off with a perfect 9th. Cory Vaughn (who moved to the cleanup spot for the first time in St. Lucie), Wilmer Flores, and Stefan Welch all had 2 hit nights. Flores had a 2 run homer, his 6th of the year.
Greensboro 5, Savannah 4
The Gnats scored all 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th, but could not come all the way back as they lose their second straight after an 11-game winning streak. Gonzalez Germen took the loss after giving just 1 run on 3 hits in 5 innings. A rare rough outing for Chase Huchingson who let up 3 runs in 3 innings. Darrell Ceciliani and Alonzo Harris each had a pair of hits. Blake Forsythe, who is starting to turn it on ever so slightly, had a 2-run homer.
Vermont 5, Brooklyn 4
Eduardo Aldama struck out 7 in 3.2 innings, but with that many strike outs and 3 walks his pitch count forced him out in the 4th inning. Fifth round draft pick John Leathersich struck out the side in a perfect 6th inning, which makes for a pretty nice pro debut. Orlando Tovar blew the game, giving up 3 runs in the 7th. Daniel Muno returned to the lineup after a minor injury and went 2-4. Javier Rodriguez and Richard Lucas also had 2 hits, and Brandon Brown had 3 hits, including a 3-run bomb.
Elizabethton 9, Kingsport 7
The starting pitchers in Kingsport continue to struggle. This time it was Brett Mitchell who got lit up for 7 runs in 3.1 innings. Yucarybert De La Cruz went 3-5 from the leadoff spot. Jeffrey Glenn was 2-4 with a 2-run homer.
GCL Mets 3, GCL Astros 3 suspended in 8th
Jose De La Torre started, making his 4th rehab appearance. Hopefully he can return to Buffalo soon. Gilbert Gomez was 3-4 with a double and 2 RBI’s, the promising outfielder is hitting .311.
