I just have to comment:  No Hairston?

Wright and Reyes can’t come back fast enough.

But you know, even with that lineup today, with the runners stranded and Bay’s error, it’s the pitching that resulted in this loss.

5 innings and a 3 R HR to a guy who has never hit a HR?  After giving up a hit to the pitcher, for the second time?
Pelf really makes me crazy.  Right now, I think he’s the worst starter on that staff.

well, if you told me that next years rotation was going to be Johan and 4/5 of the current staff, and I got to pick the odd man out, yes it would be Pelf.

If the bullpen had done its job then we’d be talking about another outstanding comeback by this over-achieving team. But alas the euphoria that we felt lasts for only one day. I also believe if we accept that Pelfrey is a back-end of the rotation starter then we would be most pleased with his work rather than crucify him for a mediocre performance.

I’ll go along with this but 5 innings isn’t exactly a stellar outing.  Of all the pitchers on the staff we need Pelfrey to go deep into the ball game.  Even that HR, which obviously was a poorly located pitch or poor pitch selection ’cause look at that hitter – might not have been that bad had he not given up 2 singles before that – one to the pitcher I made add, to make it a 3 R HR.

And yes, most of that BP wasn’t much better.  Beato was awful – I can only hope that’s b/c he hadn’t pitched in 9 days, but the last man I wanted to see out there to clean up his bases loaded mess was Izzy.

Even with this lineup, we scored 5 runs.  Left plenty of men on base – had many more opportunities but again – look at the lineup.

This loss fell squarely on the pitching, IMO.

heard about 2 innings in the car.  saw tail end on gameday.

so game summary seems to be, Pelf still sucks (kendrick and martinez?  give me an Effing break).  Abnormal control problem by beato.  Iggy and Acosta both aren’t that good int he majors.

and, they battled, and never gave up, which is the best thing coming out of today.

Oh and of course, Duda continues to heat up and hit.  Another triple?  Nice!

I would say the only good pitch Pelf had was the HR pitch. It was so high and inside but the kid steped back like he was playing softball and knocked it out. Everything around it was typical poof.

I watched K-Rod pitch the 8th for the Brew Crew. It was his customary high wire act yet somehow escaping unscathed.

Duda also hit into a key double play in the bottom of the eighth
or that rally may have pulled the Mets even closer.

sorry.  was not listening for that part.  But I am sure he hit it hard!

True. He hit it so hard that Utley found himself fielding the ball at ShakeShack.  It took 4 relay throws to get Bay at second who fell down from laughing so hard and Duda was easily doubled at first running as fast as he can. The Mets protested that since the ball and fielder were driven out of the park it should be a ground rule double. But the umps were too busy laughing and paid no attention to Terry. After the game Terry was heard to say that he knows a 90 year old women using a walker that could have beaten Duda to first. :-)

Well today was a rough one.  Pelf actually had a good tight sinker working but for some god unknown reason when he needed to throw it with first & second and Martinez up he threw a fastball again that as Ronnie and Keith said the kid was sitting on.  Wonder if Pelf was tipping pitches or something.  Anyway, my stance on Pelf is pretty well documented the past few weeks so I don’t have much to add.  Interesting Collins pulled him at 85 pitches after 5 in a 4-0 game.  Guess he wasn’t even confident he could get another 2 innings out of him.  4-0 mid game is not insurmountable and to pull the supposed #1 of your staff was telling to me.  Perhaps Collins has seen enough too.

Bay was brutal today, between 2 groundouts with 2 runners on early in the game when it was still 1-0 to whiffing on the catch to start Beato’s inning, man just brutal.  Missing the ball and clank off his shoulder, then listening on the radio Howie was ripping him on miscommunication on a ball that was clearly his that Pagan had to catch and Schneider tagged for run 5.  Oy, today was a start Hairston should have been making after yesterday in Bay’s place or in RF.  This game was just not good all the way around.

bay had that little run, but guess it was a mirage?  How could he seem to figure thngs out and then quickly slip back into ineptitude?

He is about at the point of needing to be seeing a lot more bench time.

Let’s see, with DW coming back, that means a fight for PT between turner, murphy and duda at 1B/2B.

maybe murphy at 1B, with Duda platooning with bay?

It’s now nearly two calendar years since Bay was a star. He’s done. Maybe it’s his eyes? Who knows, but he is done.

And psssst—you and Ceetar might check the rearview, as if we lose to them tomorrow, those horrible Marlins will be half a game behind us.

And as for the schedule, it is in fact washing them out. Losses of 2 of 3 to the Yanks, Giants, and Phils. Very depressing and disappointing, as the brief rays of hope seems to be evaporating.

And Pelf? Who do people want to replace him with? Misch? Figgy?

And it did not take long to get a glimpse of the Met bullpen minus KRod.

The white flag is waving, and it’s not a pretty sight to see.

Pelfrey is fine if he is treated as a back end starter.

If the Mets descend into the basement then it would be interesting explaining how a team of over achieving A and B rated players is in last place.

Kong do you like the Marty Feldman avatar? I always thought him to be among the funniest people on film. I would rank him right up there with the likes of Peter Sellers.

You must have missed my comment when you first changed the avatar—I don’t like it, I LOVE it.

I even think this picture is of him playing Orville Stanley Sacker in Sherlock Holmes’ Smarter Brother. This should prove my Marty bona fides.

My bro and I grew up on Gene Wilder films in the 1970s, and his work with Marty Feldman in Young Frankenstein and Sherlock Holmes will make me laugh until I am 150 years old if I live that long.
