how about that Duda. Don’t even have to look at July any more, his YTD #s are quite respectable on their own. Just has to stop having slow starts. And fielding his position, that would be good too.

I’d say he’s been quietly creeping up to .300 but he had to loud a July to date to say that anymore. Your last sentence says it all, that would be the last piece of the puzzle for him. I still just once would like his music for at bats to be Steely Dan’s “Any Major Dude”. Phonetically when the chorus hits ..any major dude ‘ll tell you….just sounds like duda tell ya. Then again I’ve alway’s been too easily amused.

The toy bambino, aka Babe Duda, with a nice day and 3 rbi only to be outdone by Bay with 3 hits and also 3 rbi.

Hey maybe we can move Wright to Right Field, the name matches…. then move Murphy to 3B and Duda to 1B.
OK more seriously what are they gonna do? Duda is not a solution in RF.

At least that might force David to throw the ball overhand again. Could you just see him sidearm throwing everything in from the outfield. Both Murph and Duda have been men without a home in the field. I don’t think it matters where you play them they will alway’s be a liability in the field. I thought Duda was doing OK at first only to see him butcher the position in San Fran. Murphy’s footwork is a horror show every game at first. I honestly have no idea what to do with either one in the field other than what they are doing. Since no way Bay gets moved and I don’t see sitting Turner to play Murph at second and Duda at first. Man is that a scary sentence I just typed for the right side of an infield. Murph & Duda on the same side of the IF, shudder…..At least with Duda in the OF he’s only going to get less chances than he would manning first.

I honestly think Murphy just needs time at a position and he will be able to play it average. I don’t think he looks that bad at 1B/3B and he was learning 2B.
Duda, the man is just awkward in every way.

Yeah I could see that with Murph too. And you’re right Dude is just clunky in the field. It’ll be interesting to see what they do in the off season to get these guys defensive work at certain positions. I’ve never seen a guy where I have absolutely no idea where to field him where he stands the best chance of suceeding. Yeah I guess 1B/LF but he’s blocked at both spots so he best get used to RF. It’s Adam Dunn like in the field with Lucas.

Duda in the NL has to be a 1B or a RF. And needs plenty of tutoring and practice to work his way up to basically acceptable.
RF, especially a big one like at Citi, is not the best idea.
But, I think for right now, they are just doing the best they can, before making more permanent solutions (next year?), whatever they may be (say, moving Bay).
Murphy, I actually thought he was OK at 2B. If Ike does come back, then a turner/murphy platoon could work.

If we keep a speedy defensive CF I think we can get away with Duda in RF with proper positioning after an off season of work in RF. The rest of this year I’m just buckled in for the adventure. Same notion applies though, Angel shading to RF gap and let Duda guard the line so to speak. And Murph did do far better at 2B than I expected. Wherever he is they need to work on his positioning on plays where he doesn’t have the ball. Probably a byproduct of being moved around but he seems to get out of position an awful lot. Also, don’t know what they may do with the walls in the off season, this may help the RF quandry with dude.

I know there was another thread about this, but I don’t see why Bay can’t flip to RF and Duda cover LF. Assuming Duda continues to progress into something similar to Adam Dunn Lite (the burro to Dunn’s Donkey?) I think we would all be pleased with that.

In hockey a coach may bring in a figure skater or speed skater to teach the players some of the finer points of skating. Perhaps in Murphy’s and Duda’s case TC could bring in a dance expert, perhaps even a ballet teacher, to work with the two of them on footwork. However, the thought of Murphy and Data in ballet tights is somewhat revolting.

Whata ya mean bring in a dance expert they already have one at short from all reports.

Can you imagine Duda trying to perform a Pirouette or leaping in the air? He’d probably break a leg.
BTW Gene Kelly presented “Dancing Is a Man’s Game” on Omnibus in 1958 where he compared his dance movements to those in sports. Here is the link for one of the presentations:

Awesome piece. Gene used to have a great little restaurant on the S. Shore of Long Island Misty Harbor, was said when it closed many years ago. I must confess as a kid I always wanted to dance like Gene Kelly. Yes, I was a wierd kid, and it hasn’t gotten much better.

My motto for the rest of the season is:
We’ve got 9 games left against Atlanta, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark… and we’re wearing sunglasses.
Hit it.

I personally think the Mets should look to trade Murphy in the offseason. He could be a starting 3B for a good number of teams in the MLB and he costs next to nothing.
I think its worthwhile just to see what kind of return they could get for him especially since he would have a better role elsewhere and will probably never bat this high again…

7/29/2011-6:29pm at 6:29 pm (UTC -4)
I was actually thinking of putting this out there, just for giggles sake. I love Murph’s versatility and his bat, but if he could fetch something nice, then you certainly consider it. But it would have to be very nice, because Murph hits very well and is extremely cheap. If Murph could only play passable OF…

Sure, like almost everyone throw the name out but I think he is much more valuable to the Mets than his return would be. Being able to hit and play 1B, 2B, 3B and emergency LF is not a bad guy to have around.
