Last Night on the Farm – 8/3/11

Last night on the farm, both Greg Peavey and Ryan Fraser looked sharp. Also, the Cyclones walked off with a win.

Altoona 4, Binghamton 3

Tobi Stoner had a great outing, throwing 7 innings and giving up just 1 unearned run on 2 hits and 3 walks. Then Josh Stinson entered the game in the 8th and gave up 3 runs, blowing the game for the B-Mets. Eric Campbell was 2-4 with a homerun; after a dreadful season, Campbell hit .303 in July. Matt Den Dekker, Reese Havens, and Juan Lagares each had a hit. Den Dekker was moved from the lead off spot to 8th in the order. Lagares has at least 1 hit in 10 of 11 games since being promoted.

St. Lucie 6, Jupiter 1 (game 1)

Greg Peavey went the distance (which is only 7 innings in a double header), giving up just 1 run on 4 hits a walk while striking out 6. Peavey has responded very well to a set back a couple starts ago. Pedro Zapata had 2 hits, including a solo homer. Wilmer Flores also had 2 hits, including a double and 2 RBI’s. Game 2 was suspended in the 3rd inning.

Savannah 2, Augusta 0

Ryan Fraser has been up and down all year, but after being down for 3 straight starts, he’s back up again with 5 shutout innings, striking out 5, and allowing just 5 base runners. Michael Hebert pitched the final 4 innings, striking out 4, and allowing just 3 base runners. Albert Cordero led the way with 2 hits. Aderlin Rodriguez doubled. Joe Bonfe and Jet Butler both singled and drove in a run.

Brooklyn 3, Williamsport 2

Marcos Camarena gave up 1 run in 5 innings, striking out 5, and Orlando Tovar gave up a run in 4 innings, which set up a sac fly by Javier Rodriguez in the bottom of the 9th to give the Cyclones a win. Daniel Muno and Travis Taijeron each had 2 hits; Muno doubled and Taijeron tripled. Those two guys are becoming the most prominent position players from this year’s draft to keep an eye on in the future. Nelfi Zapata had 3 hits and drove in a run.

Elizabethton 6, Kingsport 5

Dawrin Frias let up the game-winning run in the top of the 9th after a mediocre start by Jacob Lugo and a strong middle relief stint by Hansel Robles. Dustin Lawley was 3-5 with a 2-run homer. Tant Shepherd drove in 2 runs.

GCL Cardinals 5, GCL Mets 4 (14 innings)

It was a long one, but the Mets rookies couldn’t pull it out, allowing an unearned run in the 14th inning. Gilbert Gomez homered for the second time in 4 days. Jeyckol De Leon had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s. Jorge Rivero was 2-4 with a triple.
