A real good night for a lot of key prospects last night. Let’s take a look:
Pawtucket 6, Buffalo 5
Dale Thayer blew the save and took the loss when he gave up 2 runs in the 9th, ruining a good offensive night by the Bisons. Josh Satin was 2-3 with a walk and 3 runs scored. Fernando Martinez doubled 3 times, driving in 2 runs. Jesus Feliciano and Ruben Tejada both had 2 hits. Nick Evans was 0-3, but walked and drove in a run before getting promoted. He’s just 4-25 since rejoining Buffalo after his last demotion.
Binghamton 6, Reading 3
Brandon Moore earned his 9th win of the year with a solid performance, letting up 3 runs over 6 innings, striking out 4. Collin McHugh struck out 6 and only allowed 2 hits in 3 shutout innings. Reese Havens and Brahaim Maldonado each had 3 hits, including a double, a homer, and 2 RBI’s. Havens has 8 hits in his last 13 at bats. Eric Campbell had 2 hits and an RBI, including a triple.
St. Lucie 7, Jupiter 6 (12 innings)
Darin Gorski was less than stellar again, but still pretty solid, pitching 6 innings, giving up 4 runs and striking out 4. Cory Mazzoni got promoted from Brooklyn to St. Lucie. The 2nd round pick threw 6 shutout innings for the Cyclones, allowing 7 base runners and striking out 10. He threw a scoreless frame in his first appearance for the Lucies. Josh Edgin had 2 more shutout innings. Erik Niesen blew the save with 2 unearned runs, but ended up getting the win. Estarlin Morel got the save. Cesar Puello was 2-6, with 3 runs scored. Wilmer Flores was 3-5 with a double and an RBI. Every starter except Pedro Zapata and Cory Vaughn had at least 1 hit. Vaughn did walk 3 times and drive in a run, but he is in a big time slump, going hitless in his last 6 games, and hitting .103 in his last 10.
Savannah 10, Charleston 5
Adam Kolarek has been dominate in relief, but he started this game and got hit hard for 5 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits and 3 walks in 2.2 innings. Chase Huchingson threw 3 shutout innings of relief, earning his 7th win of the year. Juan Torres had a 3-hit game for the 2nd consecutive day; he homered twice and drove in 5 runs. Aderlin Rodriguez and Joe Bonfe both had 2 hits; Rodriguez added 2 RBI’s. Albert Cordero was 3-5; after a .311 average in July Cordero is hitting .421 in August.
Brooklyn 9, Staten Island 4
Carlos Vazquez struck out 6, but couldn’t get out of the 5th inning. Tyson Seng picked up the win after 1.2 innings in relief. Jack Leathersich and Jeremy Gould both pitched a scoreless inning of relief. Javier Rodriguez doubled and walked 4 times. Richard Lucas was 2-5 with 4 RBI’s. Travis Taijeron was 2-4 with 2 RBI’s.
Kingsport 7, Elizabethton 4
Domingo Tapia gave up 2 unearned runs on 2 hits and 3 walks through 6 innings, striking out 4. Tapia is now looking good every other time out. Greg Pron was 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI’s. Tant Shepherd was 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Eight of the guys in the lineup had at least 1 hit.
