Last night while I was watching the Mets game from the comfort of my couch, I was taken aback by what I was seeing on my screen. No it wasn’t the Mets losing by the score of 4-1 to the Atlanta Braves ( that’s par for the course), but the Mets were wearing a new alternate home uniform that was a shade of a blue and orange that should make us Mets fans proud !
I am part of the faction of Mets fans, spear headed by blogger in arms Shannon Shark of Mets Police that hate the black Mets uniforms. I honestly think that those uniforms have totally worn out their welcome and needs to be replaced ! These blue uniforms that were featured with the Los Mets logo on the front ( in conjunction with Spanish Heritage Night) are kind of like the old Spring Training uniforms that the Mets used to wear during the early ’80′s.
Judging by the good responce that I saw on other blogs as well as Twitter, I think that the Mets should re-evaluate the black uniforms and replace them with these alternates. I feel that it would be a instant hit with the general public, and I am sure they would be a popular addition to any hardcore Met fans collection of jerseys !
So Mr. David Howard, or whomever dictates the design of the Mets uniforms, please consider using these blue and orange jerseys – the are a real hit !!!
By the way if you would like to see footage from Tom Seavers interview with us bloggers please click here. It was taken by Keith Blacknick – aka Mediagoon from the Mets Police site
And with that said…. HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!
Mets alumni celebrating a birthday today includes:
Middle reliever from the ’62 team, Clem Labine would have been 85 today (1926). He was integral member of the ” Boy’s of Summer” Brooklyn Dodger teams from the ’50′s
Middle reliever from the ’62 season, Herb Moford would have been 83 today (1928).
One of the most hated Mets pitchers of the past 10 years ( other than Oliver Perez), Victor Zambrano is 36 (1975).
Sadly on this date in 1993, original Mets pitcher, Bob Miller passed away. He would come back to the Mets in the middle of the ’73 season as a middle reliever, and stayed with the Mets until he was released early in the ’74 season.
The New York Mets purchased the contract of middle reliever, Ralph Terry from the Kansas City Athletics on August 6, 1966.
The New York Mets traded minor league infielder, Greg Veloz to the Washington Nationals for second baseman, Anderson Hernandez on August 6, 2009. Hernandez was obtained to fill in for the injured Luis Castillo and Jose Reyes. Unfortunately his glove had degraded quicker than a stick of uranium 235 !
Mo Vaughn has entered himself in tonight’s hamburger eating contest at Citi Field. Patron Saint of Mets concessions, Keith Hernandez is set to be a judge. All I can say is let the Mo win Keith if you know whats best for you !!!!

To hell with you! I’ve always loved the black jersey. I actually don’t like the pinstripes much. The blue last night was pretty slick, though.

Have the aging Phillies started to fade yet??

Yup. They’re fading as much as the last few years that people have called them old. Fading right into the playoffs, that is.

I, too, hate the black jerseys. I want the road grays, the white pinstripes, and if they need an alternate, i will go with rusty and say that the Blue tops are a solid choice. and the hats should always be blue. nothing but the blue hats!

I like white pinstripes for home, and the 1970s gray unis for the road, with the classic New York on the shirts.

Still not sure buddy, but I get home from vacation Tuesday, and after I dig out of the depths of the weeds I will be in, figuring that out will be among my top tasks! Will let you know ASAP.

I guess I’m in the minority in that I like the black jerseys. I also like the white pinstripe Los Mets uniforms they had last year better than these blue ones.
But since most teams seem to change up the uniforms every few years or so, I suppose it’s about time for a change. And from what I read, most Met fans did seem to like those uniforms last night.

Am I the only one that feels the pinstripe unis feel too much like they’re trying to be like the big brother Yankees? I’d actually prefer they go with the crisp white jersey and the blue as home jerseys and alternate gray and black on the road.
I really don’t get the hate for the black jersey. I love it.

Wasn’t that part of the Los Mets thing? They don’t win when they’re Los Mets; then again they don’t win when they’re THE Mets. Same difference.
