While I truly enjoyed this season to this point I’m now buckled in and mentally prepared for the long slide to another year below .500.  My hopes for the year were to finish at .500 or a couple of games over and be respectable.  They’ve been respectable to here but now after a 3-6 homestand where we lost Reyes again and Murphy, and seeing a mid August lineup featuring Harris, Baxter, Tejada cue up the Door’s “The End”.

I’m still holding out hope they can finish with a .500 season.

Reyes hopefully back by Sept, some fresh blood, especially arms in that BP.  Maybe we can win some ball games.

Unfortunately the remainder of the season appears to be an exercise in futility and frustration. I eagerly await the off-season to learn what moves can and will be made. Understanding that the exceptionally talented kid pitchers presently in the minors may not arrive until 2013 and recalling that Jerry Koosman’s first full season was 1968 and Tom Seaver’s first full season was 1967 then we may not see another contending team until 2014 or 2015.

    Of all the luck…..
Was hoping to see Pelf go 8 innings tonight and hold that lead – especially after all the hoopla on his comments in the Post.

Which, BTW, I just didn’t see the big deal with those comments Pelf said.  He basically was reiterating what RA Dickey said earlier this season.

    Bah.

And on that note, TC said in post game, that Pelf talked to the team and said: ‘here I thought I was saying something good but it didn’t come out that way in the story’.

I just knew the Post was cherry picking comments to slant that story they way they wanted to write it.

TC said the entire team thought they had a very good chance of competing this year back when the season started.

      Much ado about nothing.
