A little minor league news on a slow day in Mets land. According to twitter sources, four Binghamton players have been notified that they will be going to the Arizona Fall League: Collin McHugh, Brandon Moore, Juan Lagares, and Reese Havens. McHugh has been surprisingly good in AA this year, especially lately, so this will be a chance to see if he’s for real and has a chance to be a big league contributor next year. Brandon Moore has fringy major league stuff, but he’s worked his way up the system nicely, so this will be a nice challenge for him. You may remember Moore pitched a no-hitter for Brooklyn a few years back. Both McHugh and Moore are rule 5 eligible, so that’s a factor in their selection as well. Lagares has had an excellent season, earning a promotion to Binghamton and continuing to tear it up once he got there. At his age, you’d prefer him to be in AAA and a little closer to the big leagues, so this will be a chance to speed up his development just a little. He could be a really useful utility player in the majors; he can play all three outfield positions well and he also played a lot of infield earlier in his career. He just doesn’t walk that much. Havens is a no-brainer. After another year in which injuries slowed him down, he needs more at bats. Havens has gone to Arizona before, and if he can end the season strong and do well in Arizona, it could increase his chances of getting a fair shot at winning the big league 2nd base job in the spring.

It would solve the problem, but no way Terry just ditches Turner and Tejada like that.

not exactly minor league news, but will put this here anyway.
Interesting article about my man Duda. At least one coach (that knows him well) feels he is perfectly capable of playing the OF. And I have noted before that he has a strong arm. This tidbit cold explain that:
” Duda was a bright, SoCal high-school hitting prospect who also had so
much potential as a pitcher he once got the save in a prep championship
game” at Dodger Stadium.Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/2011/08/27/2011-08-27_lucas_duda_seizes_opportunity_forces_mets_to_find_lineup_spot_for_him_with_hot_l.html#ixzz1WGF6qL9l

We are talking about the re-incarnation of Babe Ruth. Hence my referring to him as the “Toy Bambino.” Like Ruth the Toy Bambino can pitch and play the outfield. Babe Duda, the HOF is waiting.

If he continues to play like he has for the last 2 months(basically when he became a regular), he just might!
july 1-august 25 315
.389
.555
.944
168 PAs (146 abs), 7 HRs and 29 RBIs.
basically a full year output for Bay!
project that to a full year, and you are looking at 30/120.
No, of course not “guaranteed” but keep this up and he will be a keeper!

Anyone remember how Murphy did in 2008? How about 2009? Why do we do this to our players instead of just waiting and letting them develop? Duda has had a good run but before incarnating him he at least needs to do it for one full season. One which he is playing in semi important games where pitchers have scouted him and made adjustments and he to has had to adjust. That is the true mark of a “keeper”.

Yup, I’d love to see what Havens has in a larger sample size. The AFL is a no brainer for him.
