This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty: The ” Songs That Describe The Mets” Edition 09-01-11

Wow it is September first already ! Where has the season gone ? Yeah I know the 2011 season has pretty much gone the way the prognosticators and pundits have foretold. But this team has proven to have some  good talent who will be important to this team for the forthcoming future.

These players – whether they are veterans or rookies, have their own distinct personalities. So I figured I would take a few selected players and coaches  and designate a song that best fits their persona.

The song that best fits Jose Reyes is “Speed King” by Deep Purple

For Terry Collins he is best described by the song ” Disciplinarian” by the Good Rats

The song that best suits Jason Bay is “Behind Blue Eyes” by The Who.

Jason Isringhausen is ” The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner” by Iron Maiden.

David Wright  is the “Iron Fist” by Motorhead.

Justin Turner is best served by ” Hit Me With Your Best Shot” by Pat Benetar.

Mookie Wilson is “Fast As A Shark” by Accept.

And lastly “Lick It Up” by Kiss is most fitting for Mike Pelfrey !

So what songs do you you think fits the personalities of this seasons crop of Mets players ?

R.A Dickey is ” The  Wizard”  by Uriah Heep !

And with that said…. HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!!

Mets alumni celebrating a birthday today includes:

One time coach for the ’77 Mets, Tom Burgess would have been 84 today (1927) . He managed the Tidewater Tides during their 1976 campaign.

One time top pitching prospect for the Mets, Dave West is 47 (1964). West was one of the key players that was dealt to the Minnesota Twins for Cy Young Award winner, Frank Viola. West had a long productive career while Viola spent a few seasons with the Mets before bolting via free agency.

Middle reliever from the ’96 team, Derek Wallace is 40 (1971) .

The New York Mets traded reserve outfielder, Rod Gaspar to the San Diego Padres for middle reliever, Ron Herbel on September 1, 1970.

The New York Mets traded minor league pitcher, Kyle Kessel to the Detroit Tigers for C. J. Nitkowski on September 1, 2001.

The New York Mets signed free agent pitcher, Alay Soler on September 1, 2004. Soler was supposed to be our Cuban diamond in the rough – too bad he turned out to be a lump of coal !

The best song to describe Mo Vaughn would be ” Hungry Freaks Daddy” by Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention !!!
