Bryan care to share any opinions on Josh Edgin?

Yes, Josh Edgin is the best of several good looking lefty relievers the Mets have in A-ball this year.  He was (without hyperbole) dominant in Savannah the first half and has been equally impressive the second half in St. Lucie.  Both his fastball and slider are plus pitches.  His fastball is 92-93 and his slider about 10 mph less.  He has a strikeout per inning in St. Lucie and produces A LOT of groundballs.  His ceiling his probably as a MLB LOOGY, but he has a chance to be a really really good one, but he hasn’t exactly gotten hit hard by righties, so he could become a guy who can also get righties out.  If he can develop a change up at some point he’ll def be a crossover guy, but for now he’s just fastball & slider, but both those pitches are really good.

I believe the Mets have 1 spot left for a pitcher in the Arizona Fall League and I would love them to use it on Edgin, and I’d actually be real surprised if they didn’t, because it would get him time against some real good more advanced hitters and speed up his development even more, as he is a guy who should move pretty quickly.  Either way, he should start in AA next year, and once you get to AA, pretty much anything can happen, so if all goes well for Edgin, and at this point there’s no reason to think that won’t happen, depending how things shake out, he could be in the big leagues at some point next year.  I’d say, barring an injury or something dramatic, there’s no way he’s not in the Mets bullpen by 2013.

If there’s a knock against Edgin it’s that he sometimes struggles with control, but his walk total isn’t exactly an outrage so it’s not a huge concern.

In short, I really like him, can’t wait until he’s a key piece of the Mets bullpen.

Nice breakdown. I have a better picture about him now. Thanks.

No problem.  That’s why I’m here.

Developing quality BP arms down there should be a priority.  We haven’t had many of them in the past several years make it up here and stick.

Kyle Allen got roughed up big time for 7 runs in .2 innings  Yikes!

Nice to be reading about Johan pitching in rehab games.  Wonder how that shoulder is feeling after these couple of outings.  The Mets SP staff could really use him back and ready to go next year.  Even if he isn’t the dominate pitcher he was in his 20s, he’s still has to be better than half the arms we currently have.  I’ll be happy if he makes it back as a strong #2.
