Rough night for the affiliates in the playoffs. Out it this way, Brooklyn had the best time, and they were rained out. Come to think of it, the long layoff probably isn’t helping the previously white hot team. St. Lucie looked to clinch their series and Savannah looked to get off on the right foot. Ummmm….didn’t happen.
Bradenton 10, St. Lucie 0 (Series tied 1-1)
With Zach Wheeler on the hill and playing at home the Lucies looked primed to advance to the Florida State League finals. However, a two hour rain delay put off the start of the game and it took a toll on the St. Lucie pitching staff. All five PSL hurlers gave up at least one run, and Wheeler took it on the chin (3.2IP, 4R, 5H, 2BB, 7K). The offense was, well, offensive, mustering only two hits on the evening. Game 3 is tonight with the series on the line.
Augusta 4, Savannah 1 (Augusta leads series 1-0)
Angel Cuan was stellar (6IP, 0R, 6H, 0BB, 5K) and the Sand Gnats and took a 1-0 lead into the seventh inning against the Green Jackets (San Francisco Giants affiliate). However Chase Huchingson relieved Cuan and had an inning to forget, loading the bases and giving up a game tying single and then a three run homer that pout the game away. Aderlin Rodriguez went 1 for 3 and drove in the lone Savannah run. The series shifts back to Savannah tomorrow night with the Sand Gnats facing elimination. Maybe this is revenge for ripping off the Giants for Carlos Beltran.

Perhaps Wheeler was a little too hyped up, he was reportedly from 96-99 early in the game. Greg Peavey pitches tonight.

I wonder how much if any at all the 2 hour delay due to rain played into it. Still not an excuse though.
Will be curios to see what the coaches say regarding why such a poor outing especially when I believe they said he had handled Bradenton very well in 2 prior starts.

Here’s hoping they’ll have a better showing today.
