Nothing like an extra innings elimination game to give you a jolt! And someone forgot to tell the Cyclones offense that last night’s game wasn’t rained out as well. Looks like Johan Santana will be the starter for tonight’s game against Augusta. They’ll need him with the season on the line.
St. Lucie 4, Bradenton 3 – 10 innings (St. Lucie wins series 2-1)
This one was a constant see-saw battle that had Greg Peavy throw seven solid innings (7IP, 2R, 6 H, 3BB, 6K) and take a tie game into the eight. Josh Edgin came on in relief and gave up a run before Jeffrey Kaplan could get him out of the jam. However the damage was done, and the Lucies now had their backs to the wall. In the bottom of the inning, Wilmer Flores singled home Pedro Zapata to tie the game and we were off to extras. In the bottom of the tenth, Jefry Marte singled in Travis Ozga with two outs, sending the Mets to the finals for the first time since 2006. The Daytona Cubs await. Congratulations guys!
Staten Island 2, Brooklyn 0 (Staten Island leads series 1-0)
The three off days seemed to have waterlogged the Cyclone offense, as they could only muster two hits all night against the Yankees. The shame of it is that it spoiled a brilliant effort by Marcos Camerena (6IP, 1R, 6H, 0BB, 9K). The Cyclones also threw in three errors, just for laughs, one of which lead to an insurance run in the eighth. With the season on the line Brooklyn will look to rebound in a rare weekday afternoon game on Staten Island.
