Now that’s more like. With the series tied, the action shifts to Savannah, where the Sand Gnats went 50-22 on the season. Advantage: Sand Gnats.
Savannah 7 Greensboro 3 (Series tied 1-1)
The Sand Gnats got the game they needed, though it got off to an uneven start. After jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, they let the Grasshoppers chip their way back to a tie by the second inning. Darrel Ceciliani (1 for 4, 2 runs scored) came home on a wild pitch in the top of the third, and Savannah never looked back, adding solo runs in the fourth and the seventh to open a 5-2 lead by the seventh inning. In the top of the eighth, Aderlin Rodriguez (2 for 4) launched a two run bomb that put the game away. SS Wilfredo Tovar went 3 for 5 and 2B Luis Nieves went 1 for 4 with a solo homer. Gonzalez German struggled in three innings of work, but Yohan Almonte tossed four shutout innings in relief to earn the win. Brandon Sage had a bit of an eventful ninth, as an unearned run scored thanks to two errors and Greensboro got the tying run to the plate, but he worked through it and now Johan Santana awaits when play resumes Thursday night.
