Sandy Alderson announced today that the Mets have picked up the 2013 option for Terry Collins. Which basically means that Collins will manage the Mets for the next two years.

not sure I would ahve done it, but not going to get upset about it.
but please, next year, can the excessive bunting, OK?

As opposed to the hit and run with Thole there after the first pitch failed bunt attempt? LOL
Did you see this game tonight?
Love Reyes. The rest of the team – lots of Fail to go around here.
Good thing we’re not the Rays or the Sox or the Braves or the Cards and we really needed this game.

no, I only “watched” a few parts on gameday. Sounds like a truly depressing last inning there.
Looking forward to improvement next year. Please?
And the more I think about it, Terry should not have gotten that option picked up. 2 years is plenty for building an attitude. By 2013, a guy with actual managerial ability too would have been nice!

Don’t you understand that they still battled?

I would of held off as well. There was no reason to commit at this point. I feel he did a excellent job with what he had to work with but it’s not like they need to demonstrate stability to sign FA’s. The team also isn’t good enough to warrant media scrutiny of whether he would be retained or not next season. It was a solution to a non-issue.

Over in the NFL the NY Giants subscribe to the philosophy that you never allow a head coach to play out the string so to speak. If they wish for the coach to coach the following season and he will be in his last year of the contract they will extend him for another season. They recently did this with Tom Coughlin. If they wish to replace the coach at the end of the following season they just eat the years pay on the contract. The reasoning behind this approach is they don’t want the coach to make personnel decisions solely based on winning the following season totally disregarding what is best for the long term of the franchise. Perhaps Sandy also believes in this approach..

Totally get that in most situations but to me Terry is still just a babysitter. The good thing is they aren’t paying him a lot of coin, so if they write him off it won’t be a big deal.
Speaking of Big-Blue, great game last week. Taking out GB’s since ’85!

Only the Mets can be walked 4 times in a row, starting with 0 outs, also receiving a balk…and STILL not score. Oy.

With the Cardinals/Astros, Yankees/Rays and Orioles/RedSox games presenting a more compelling story I found it impossible to stay with the Mets/Reds.

I will say that early this month, it did not seem like there were going to be any playoff races this year. Exciting stuff.
But, to me, also a negative (and especially if there is a tie requiring a play in game). Without the Mets to root for, I root for whichever team in each league has the best shot at beating the Yanks and Phils prior to the WS. And having potential opponents (well, not in the Yanks case) burning out instead of getting lined up for the playoffs is bad!
I also think they need to get rid of the dumb rule about not playing a team in your division in the WC round.

I wonder how that rules will or will not apply when Selig changes current configuration and adds a WC team to each league?
I understand this change in contingent on getting the Astros to move to the AL.
