There seems to be a lot of talk regarding David Wright’s future with the Mets so today’s question is about the Met Third Baseman.
Let’s say the Rockies(who seem to be the team rumored to like Wright) or any team for that matter, would want to make a trade with the Mets. How many players would it take and from what positions to make it worth it to trade David Wright?

I will give a definitive “it depends”.
depends on how good any particular player is, and it should be about total talent (not just what position they play). Kind of like an NFL team drafting the best player on the board, not trying to reach to fill a need.

I’m not good at proposed trades. I will say this though. If Reyes walks and they trade Wright prior to the season starting, it had better be for some top elite talent and/or prospects. Otherwise, how does the FO sell getting rid of Reyes and Wright and the same time. The backlash from the fan base would be huge.
Come mid season though, depending on Wright’s numbers and Met standing it might be an easier sell to the fan base.

Big deal!…. Attendence is already way down, We already know this is not a contending group AND theres no money to spend.
Again, 55 million tied up in Johan, Wright and Bay . Think about that for a second……. We have no idea what Johan is when he returns,
Wright has clearly regressed as a player to the point where, overall
he’s a very ordinary MLB strarter. As for Bay……After two years, he’s has locked himself into being a total bust. One of the alltime in our history, and as you know, that’s saying something.
Those three tie up about half the projected payroll.
How can true rebuilding begin until and unless we start to move on
from whats left from the preceeding era???

It would take 1 prime time prospect and maybe another 2. When you look at what the Mets got for Beltran, I would think the above would be a probability. Yes, that was at the deadline to a team looking to make a run, but I think something along that lines would work for Wright.

Pomeranz and Fowler and another prospect maybe not quite on Pomeranz’s level.
As good as Wright was from 2005–2008, that’s a long, long time ago. He was awful in 2011; let’s not blame it all on injuries.
He’s definitely worth more than Beltran, but if we can get Pomeranz and add him to Wheeler, Sandy will be off to a great start for 2012.
The team’s going to fight to get to 80 wins in 2012, and if we can get another top pitching prospect and a real answer for CF, you trade Wright for Pomeranz and Fowler and aren’t too demanding about what else you get.

injuries had to play a big part though this year. A broken back (and how long he played with it) ain’t nothing to sneeze at.
I would say the floor should be 2010. I would expect (barring any major injury again) at his age to see at least a year like that.
.856 OPS, 131 OPS+ (for the saber crowd!), and finished 24th in the MVP voting. No, not up to 2008 standards, but still pretty damned good.

It’s fun to say he had a broken back, as if he was in traction for months, but that’s kind of a gross overstatement. He came back very hot for a short while, and then continued his decline—on defense as well as offense.
Sorry buddy; I am in full-on reality mode when it comes to the very mediocre and very disappointing Mets. Duda definitely has some offensive potential—while being slow, and a terrible fielder with no arm–but, Niese, Gee, Parnell, Evans, Thole, Tejada, etc., appear to be a very, very mediocre group.
Let us hope that Wheeler, Mejia, Harvey, Familia and whoever else Sandy can conjure up finally begin to change that in 2013.

belated hello back Brock! Work schedule such that
I haven’t been able to justify focusing too much time
on our beloved Mets.
RE: Your posts here, as always sage and most importantly, realistic views of this team’s state and
near future. Niese and Gee, back of the rotation guys. Parnell, a middle innings guy, Evans, a solid
bench guy. Tejada I think is gonna be a nice SS or 2Bman provided we have a better player at the other position. Thole IS a MLB catcher BUT is never gonna be an AllStar type. Duda, better than I thought BUT like Murphy who I’ve always liked as a hitter, has to be hidden in the field.
I’m past trying to build around Wright, am ready to move and I’m fine not holding out for some huge package of prospects which we likely won’t get any way.
I expect 2012 to look ALOT like 2011 except w/o Reyes, whos NOT coming back and maybe w/o Wright.
