The Hot Stove begins! So let’s dive right into this shall we.
We all know that the highest priority for Sandy is to sign Jose Reyes. But let’s say, just for arguments sake, that Sandy Alderson accomplishes this early(or at least he finds out Reyes won’t sign with the Mets). What should Sandy’s next priority be?

Actually his first priority should not be Reyes. It should be improving the team regardless of name.

Pitching, pitching, and more pitching.
Reyes or no Reyes, the team will go nowhere with the rotten current staff we have.
Scour the league for bullpen pickups, talk to every team to see who might be willing to trade a Wheeler or a Pomeranz, and just focus on building minor league pitching strength with serious prospects while looking everywhere for affordable MLB bullpen pieces.

Kingman has the right idea: pitching, pitching, pitching.
The BP need much help and the SP is very thin. No one knows what Santana might be for 2012 and there’s very little depth.

Probably the thousandth poster to express such sentiment but yes PITCHING is the priority and is the name of the game. If the New York Mets want to be competitive the starting pitching needs to be solid and the bullpen needs to posses quality and not just filler. The inefficiency of the bullpen has cost this club dearly over the last few seasons , fortunately bullpen configurations provide more flexibility insofar as performance varies from year to year and success does not necessarily depend on signing the same relievers . The starting rotation however will prove to be complex as starters are at a premium yet remain available in limited quantities.
