Eh….just proves that some have moved on in their 5 steps to acceptance plan.
I read Jessup’s comments regularly and he’s a fairly intelligent poster. But I have to take exception to his final line:
‘When it’s all said and done. I’m not a Wilpon fan, a Sandy fan, a J.P. fan, an Omar fan or a Reyes fan. I’m a Mets fan.’
You normally can’t separate one from the other. You don’t normally become a ‘fan’ and stay a ‘fan’ because statistically the team looks good on paper and should compete. Most normally have some type of emotional attachment to the team itself, or a handful of players at a time. It’s what makes one a fan of a particular team, rather than just a fan of baseball. For example, RA Dickey has been elevated to almost god-like status in the past 2 years by Met fans. It’s certainly not b/c he’s an ace type pitcher.
Reyes was a big part of what this fan base has come to identify with the Mets in the last decade. Now, b/c of ownership he’s gone. Don’t care how you spin it, the reason he’s gone is about the money and nothing but the money.
Not a doubt in my mind if Madoff wasn’t a crook, they Mets would have ‘overpaid’ to keep their dynamic homegrown SS. I’m saying this b/c if not for Madoff, I believe Omar would still be GM of this team. There would be no reason for the Wilpons to get in bed with Selig and agree to fire Minaya and hire Alderson. They could have saved a couple of million and kept Omar, w/o giving him money to spend. That alone tells me there’s something bigger here at work we’re not privy to….yet. It will probably all come out in time, just like the ‘secret’ loan from MLB eventually did.

You better recruit Jessup and save him from the slaughter over at MMO. I don’t think they take kindly to well thought out people.

Nothing MMO does is a breath of fresh air.
Fricking crazies over there.
