One thing we probably know for sure:  If Minaya was still GM, Reyes would still be playing for the Mets.  Good move or not,  Omar was noted for being swayed by fan sentiment.  He heard their pleas in the bagel shop.

Apparently this new regime has their breakfast ordered in….

Don’t count on that.  Do you really think Omar would have been the same free spender if the owners had taken away the checkbook?

And Jose is exactly the type of player that owners often override the GM and make a deal on their own with.

I truly believe had Sandy wanted to match the offer, the Wilpons would have 100% allowed him to.

Was letting him got the “right” decision yes, but was it the “correct decision”, no.

I completely empathize with your frustration and I know my opinion on this matter might not hold as much weight seeing I am very happy this day has come, BUT what makes you think Jose wanted to stay in NY? In NY he recently went through some historical collapses, a string of bad injuries and now the team is re-building. Maybe he needed a change. He has the opportunity to join a team that is trending up, that has a great Latin community like NY, the team has some juice with the new stadium and has now a much shorter plane ride to his home country. He put him and his family in a great situation, I think that is all too it.

Actually, I have no idea if he wanted to stay in NY.  But given the fact that he took the one and only offer he got, I’d have to say more than likely, he wanted to play in Miami.

Just have to wonder with that SEC investigation, if the Marlins will be the new Mets in a couple of years….

Probably.  And he probably would have signed him to an 8 year deal with a player option for a 9 and had escalating salary structure so the broken down and hamstringless Jose would be getting 30 mil per for the last 3 years!

Very true.  And don’t get me wrong, I’m glad Omar is not running the show.  I think I was among the first to start the ‘Omar Must Go’ chant.

I was just more or less commenting on how things have changed.  The franchise has done a 180 from the days of Minaya.  Time will tell if it will get them going in the right direction.  Personally, I don’t see it happening until the Wilpons are finally forced to sell but we’ll see.

Yeah, I agree.  Hopefully this is part of “getting the team in order to get the team sold”, but it’s probably more along the lines of “let’s get this team in order so we DON’T have to sell.”  It’s raining here in Houston.  Apropos for the mood.
