Nice. Always liked him.
12/7/2011-2:27am at 2:27 am (UTC -4)
The market is expensive for even the borderline (cue the Madonna Theme music) type talents here. He’s better than Parnell or Iggy or (insert most Mets BP guys in here), so I’m excited that it is an upgrade. It’s no Krod, but baby steps. Would like to see Francisco and one other for the BP. That would bring it to Francisco, Rauch, one other, Parnell, Beato, Herrera and Acosta. Hmm, maybe 2 more would be better than 1.

Hot on the heels of their agreement with Jon Rauch, the Mets have a multi-player trade in the works, tweets MLB Network’s Jon Heyman. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter)
describes the deal as a “change of scenery” trade both ways, and says
the Mets are going to receive two players in exchange for one.
Things are heating up boys and girl. Also happy with the Rauch signing, that is a nice pickup.

12/7/2011-2:41am at 2:41 am (UTC -4)
I think both Bay and Pelf can use a “change of Scenery”. I know this wouldn’t happen but Imagine if the Marlins are forced to move Hanley and the MEts take it on?
12/7/2011-2:44am at 2:44 am (UTC -4)
I actually thought of that today. Won’t happen, but can you imagine the first time he dogged it? The Fans would riot and storm the field.
12/7/2011-2:47am at 2:47 am (UTC -4)
He dogged it the entire year last year. If they shove him aside for Pujols and Reyes, he will start moon-walking to first until he gets traded. His poor attitude was known when he was in the sox system as well.
12/7/2011-2:48am at 2:48 am (UTC -4)
Pelf, Parnell, Pagan, and Bay all candidates.
12/7/2011-2:46am at 2:46 am (UTC -4)
Serviceable signing, I like it. Per MLBTR:
Giants may be the trade partner for Ramon Ramirez
PEr ESPN feed:
Giants trade proposal believed to be Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez to the Mets for Angel Pagan. Not definite, but promising
12/7/2011-2:51am at 2:51 am (UTC -4)
How do we feel about this?
12/7/2011-2:52am at 2:52 am (UTC -4)
I would do this if they can score another CF. A bench OF and a decent young reliever. Combined would make less than Pagan.
12/7/2011-2:53am at 2:53 am (UTC -4)
One player leaving mets, (nothing crazy like David Wright), source days deal agreed on, medicals exchanged.
12/7/2011-2:59am at 2:59 am (UTC -4)
AdamRubinESPN: So Mets new center fielder would be Andes Torres, with Angel Pagan heading to San Francisco
12/7/2011-3:04am at 3:04 am (UTC -4)
I like it. Pick up a reliever and an outfielder at half the cost of Angel’s arbitration value. Still would like Endy as a fourth outfielder.
Now trade Pelfrey and use the arbitration money saved and apply it to signing Beurle. Not likely, but I’d like that swap.
12/7/2011-2:50am at 2:50 am (UTC -4)
change of scenery guys on the mets could include pagan or carrasco but it is unlikely carrasco nets two players in return.
word on the internet is that the front office is down on pagan. my guess is that angel is the guy. no one is paying bay and the mets cant afford to trade pelfrey.
lots of internet chatter re: murphy but he certainly does not fit the description.
12/7/2011-3:03am at 3:03 am (UTC -4)
You hit the nail on the head. I don’t know enough about Rameriz to know how to feel on this. Pagan is probably the better athlete, but has a smaller brain. Torres had moments were he did shine last year, for sure.
dont like rauch at all but considering what we’ve got… anyone will do. assuming cordero and krod are not going to be a met, the next most appealing free agent reliver is probably francisco.
12/7/2011-2:58am at 2:58 am (UTC -4)
If you look at last years pen, Rauch is probably a upgrade over all except KROD. He can still close by committee and be a good force in the 7th or 8th.
12/7/2011-3:01am at 3:01 am (UTC -4)
agreed. but that’s not saying much…
re: torres and ramirez. i like ramirez a lot. don’t like torres at all. would probably keep pagan over these two because of the offensive potential of pagan v. torres.
but torres is an excellent defender and he seems to fit what sandy is looking for as a defensive upgrade. but man, if duda has a soph slump, that is going to be one lousy offensive outfield.
Yea right now after the trade this is looking to be the worst OF in the league. I really can’t see them starting Torres, but who the hell knows. Plenty of time left and good to see that Sandy is active and shoring up the pen.
12/7/2011-3:08am at 3:08 am (UTC -4)
definitely like a pen with rauch, ramirez and francisco better than what we’ve had. along with parnell and acosta — it will at least throw hard.
have to think the mets are going to look for a leadoff hitting CFer. i could see Murphy being moved for that.
i’m with you on torres having to be a 4th OF.
12/7/2011-3:13am at 3:13 am (UTC -4)
there will be no sophmore slump by Duda. He is going to be a mashing machine.
and no guarantee that Torres is the starting CF. Still time for things to shake out.
12/7/2011-3:19am at 3:19 am (UTC -4)
hopefully he keeps the moves cranking. Try to improve other areas too. Would not mind seeing a trade for a C prospect.
12/7/2011-3:05am at 3:05 am (UTC -4)
Wow, now Francisco signed too. Nice job Sandy.
Sandy’s on a friggen tear.
12/7/2011-3:12am at 3:12 am (UTC -4)
You know what I also love (other than a solid IPA)? That there was very little leakage, for lack of a better term, of info on what Sandy was planning. He laid it out and BAM, Emeril style, we just saw him bolster the BP with 3 new arms and switched out the CF. Now that is what I call action.
12/7/2011-3:18am at 3:18 am (UTC -4)
This is why the loud mouth fans don’t like him. People assume he didn’t attempt to even make a deal with Reyes. In the year he has been around he has demonstrated that he can make the trades and make the tough decisions.
12/7/2011-3:11am at 3:11 am (UTC -4)
speaking of giants OFers, Cody Ross would be a good pickup as a backup OFer. He has pop and could provide insurance at all three currently questionable positions.
so rauch, francisco and rameriz to replace Izzy, Iggy, and 1 more stiff (I smell Carrasco going away).
well, that certainly looks better.
throw byrdak, beato and accosta in there too, and it actually could be respectable.
12/7/2011-3:21am at 3:21 am (UTC -4)
Looks solid to me. With a rotation of guys that can’t make it past 6inn, it’s great to see him making upgrades here.
12/7/2011-3:23am at 3:23 am (UTC -4)
blue jays are one of the teams rumored to be interested in murphy. i’d jump all over a rasmus for murphy deal! but the jays also have raj davis, whom i’d pass on.
this andy dirk stuff i’ve read about doesn’t do it for me either.
12/7/2011-3:29am at 3:29 am (UTC -4)
You and I can head on a road trip together for Murphy for Rasmus.
12/7/2011-3:41am at 3:41 am (UTC -4)
Save me a spot, I’ll pay for the gas. I’ve been wanting Colby for 2 years now.
12/7/2011-3:42am at 3:42 am (UTC -4)
What would it really take to get Rasmus?
12/7/2011-3:54am at 3:54 am (UTC -4)
How about Murphy, Pelfrey and a prospect?
12/7/2011-3:59am at 3:59 am (UTC -4)
Not quite sure why’d they want to get rid of him, but sure, I’d like Rasmus on this team for sure.
12/7/2011-3:31am at 3:31 am (UTC -4)
Also to be considered with trading Pagan they may have the money to play in the Buherle market. Especially if they traded Pelfrey in a deal as well.
12/7/2011-3:43am at 3:43 am (UTC -4)
Had the same thought above, like minds
12/7/2011-3:36am at 3:36 am (UTC -4)
This is why I love this place. No pouting fans saying ignorant stuff like playoffs here we come…. gonna have to do more than this cause you let Reyes go….Sandy is just casting off the Latin players.
12/7/2011-3:44am at 3:44 am (UTC -4)
The other Mets blogs are crazy. Should rename this place the real sane Mets blog.
12/7/2011-3:52am at 3:52 am (UTC -4)
Yeah, some folks just don’t get it. I read “what’s with signing all these 30 something year old relievers”.
just duh….like our bullpen was so great last year we could have stood pat. crazy folks out there.
could tb finally fill its 1b hole with dan murphy + for bj upton?
the salaries don’t wash but might be the start of something.
