talk about something taken out of context and blown way out of proportion.

There are some people that seem to hate Sandy like he was Osama Bin laden.  Just IMO way out of reason given the situation he has had to work with.

I figured I’d have some light-hearted fun with it. Couldn’t resist Ricciardi as a OOMPA LOOMPA. :-)

Wow, just noticed that Braun got snagged for PEDs.  You have to wonder if there is anyone truly clean at this point?

Just saw that running across the Heisman presentation.  I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, but never would I have picked his name if asked who I thought may be using PEDs.

wow is right.  I guess you just never know who is using at this point.

I gotta laugh at some of the Sandy haters (and this includes Joe D at this point).

They love to claim that anyone that tries to apply anything passing for reason or objectivity is in some kind of sandy loving brainwashed cult, yet they have no problem attaching bizarre reasons (that they make up) to everything he does (or is rumored to be talking about).

The latest is that he is looking to trade all good young talent, solely because he is a megalomaniac and these were Omar’s guys (this ties into the theory that he has no interest in winning games, and his only goal is to get cheap guys, cheap).

They totally discount any impact of the Wilpons cutting the budget since the team is broke.  Nope, that has nothing to do with it.  Sandy has plenty of money to spend, he just refuses to do it.

It mob mentality over there. Rational thought is out the door.

NJstuckinTX I just saw your comment over at MMO and I was going to post a reply. But after seeing some of the other comments I decided against posting over there. Anyway in response to your question

”When you comment about Alderson wanting all “Alderson approved players” isn’t that how it is with all GMs?”

I have noticed that it seems to be more prevalent in Football, Basketball and Hockey where a GM may prefer a given philosophy than in Baseball. Generally in Baseball it’s a more subtle approach. Perhaps this is so because it takes longer in Baseball to build a team and talent development is more of a crap shoot. But some GMs are so incredibly egotistical and pedantic that they will move out even future potential superstars such as Davis. I haven’t followed Sandy’s career close enough to judge whether or not he falls into the category he is being accused of by Joe D. Niese, OTOH, has been overrated by many Mets fans. While he is capable of developing into a quality pitcher he does lack overwhelming talent (and I’m aware of the quality of the curveball).

I think Niese is great, so I know I fall into that category as well. I, however, am not dumb enough to think Sandy inquiring on what other would pay for Jon would equate to dumping anyone who has any association to Omar.

I have no problem with Alderson supposedly cleaning out the non-Sandy players, if it makes the team better. I wrote that more in response to the chicken littles over there that freak out over the smallest thing. I love me some Ike as well, but if a trade is done and (like stick has said) we see the Mets get a king’s ransom, how can we complain? Well, I know HOW we can complain, I’m just not sure I understand the why.

On a side note, I did get Bayonne to respond to me and not insult me. Small victories (which is a wonderful song by Faith No More).

        1. Anonymous

BayonneMetsFan is convinced that Keith Hernandez was the Mets starting 1B in 2006 and that RBIs are the most important statistic because they measure winning.

          I wouldn’t waste the effort.

I know, but I’m 4 beers deep. Simple pleasures. And I’m most like a simpleton.

So should I only allow one-sided comments that agree with you and censor all the rest like most other sites do? We’ve been allowing censor free commenting for 8 years and I don’t think I should stop that now. We’re not a niche site, all opinions are posted and commented on. We had 1.2 million page views from Tuesday to Thursday so we must be doing something right.

Sometimes censorship is a good thing, when it prevents loss of brain function.

Dude, keep doing what you are doing. You can be held responsible for lunatic fringe types. You run a stellar site. Kudos (and not the snack bar) are well deserved on your part. We just like to complain about certain posters of yours, as they seem to reside in a neighborhood that is beyond the yellow brick road.

          1. Anonymous

Should read “can NOT” be held responsible…

          2. Mets Merized Online

Thanks and no problem. I was actually more heated about the suggestion I hated Sandy than anything else. I like Sandy, he’s always been cordial to me and I to him.

As for some of the ones that comment on our site you refer to, I rarely agree with any of them.

          3. Anonymous

I found the article posted to be a good read. I saw a tag referencing Sandy bashing at MMO and went to read it and found it to be nothing of the kind. Some of the comments, yeah, but everyone’s entitled to an opinion.  Keep up the fine work.

        3. MetsFan4Decades

There’s just a handful of posters who could use some censorship sometimes.  Mostly though, I just laugh.

    2. Mets Merized Online

I’m not a Sandy hater or lover. I’m a Mets fan. I don’t root for GM’s like I do players. Please don’t say I’m a hater for simply being as critical of Alderson as I was of Minaya, Phillips, etc.

What does Wilpon cutting budget have to do with shedding Jon Niese or Ike Davis who make $450K?He has a budget of $110M, plenty of teams have gone to the Post Season with less.

Maybe if people like you stopped grouping, insulting and labeling, we can simply debate our differences in a civil way. You havent cornered the market on baseball intellect so don’t get such a big head. We disagree, that’s great, leave it at that.

      1. Anonymous

sorry to offend you by by associating you with the “core”.  Maybe hate was too strong a word, but the tone of the postings has seemed to be trending toward Sandy being the problem, or that he has some grand plan to turn the Mets into the A’s (as if that was the end goal).

And you have clearly said that the idea of a $110mill payroll is a fantasy at this point.

bottom line, as I said elsewhere, if they are trading one of those guys it means they analyzed everything and deermined there is no chance to compete in the next couple of years, so they are better off for the future if they can convert 1 guy now into say 2 guys just as good but a couple years down the line.

People also have to pick a side.  Sandy got a lot of grief from some quarters about doing “nothing” and not taking any risks.  So, now that he has done some things, and rumors surfaced of potentially making some bold strokes (IOW taking risks) he is slammed for doing that.

All I really try to do is look at both sides, and incorporate reality, when formulating an opinion.  I am not a sandy cultist or omar hater or saber head.

I’m surprised, if anyone was meant to be an oompah loompah in Metland I would have bet on Jeff Wilpon ;)

no, he would be the spoiled rich kid how yelled at his father to buy the place from Wonka.

lol, i stand corrected you are correct stickyone.

Jeez, Braun on PED’s.  Good thing the right guy won the batting title.

    1. Anonymous

As much as Reyes was criticized for bunting in his last Mets at bat it pales when compared to the news about Braun. It saves MLB from further embarrassment if Braun had won the batting title. Will they strip him of the MVP award?

      1. Anonymous

I thought the same regarding Reyes bunting and the juxtapostion to Braun’s alleged behavior. I don’t think they will strip him of the MVP. It would set a new precedent that I wouldn’t have a problem with but I think they’ll let sleeping Braun’s “lie”.

I am slightly curious as to what position player was being offered for Murphy.
