This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty: The ” Sandy Speaks To Mets Bloggers On Video !” Edition 12-14-11

Yesterday I was invited to the annual Mets Holiday Party at Citi Field. The Mets invited children  from nearby Queens Public Schools to meet Mr. Met as well as  Santa Murph ( Daniel Murphy – DUH!) and his elves that happen to have pituitary gland issues, Justin Turner and Jonathon Niese (I will try to have their interviews up by tomorrow).

Mets General Manager, Sandy Alderson was also on hand for the festivities, and he granted the bloggers that were on hand a few minutes of his time for an interview. Sandy addressed everything from Jose Reyes signing with the Marlins to what minor leaguers may have to best shot of making the team next season.

And with that said… HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!

Mets alumni celebrating a birthday today includes:

Reserve catcher from the ’73 season, Jerry May is 68(1943) .

Reserve catcher from ’65-’67, Greg Goossen is 66 (1945).

Mets hitting instructor from ’05-’07, Rick Down is 61 (1950).

Sadly on this date, the Mets lost two members of their extended family. Utility man Rod “Hot Rod” Kanehl in 2004, and middle reliever, Nick Willhite in 2008.

The Texas Rangers signed reserve infielder, Mario Diaz of the New York Mets as a free agent on December 14, 1990.

The New York Mets signed free agent outfielder, Lance Johnson of the Chicago White Sox on December 14, 1995. Lance was one of the few bright spots on those Mets teams from the mid ’90′s.

The Boston Red Sox signed middle reliever, Brad Clontz of the New York Mets as a free agent on December 14, 1998.

The New York Mets traded outfielder, David Justice to the Oakland Athletics for middle relievers, Mark Guthrie and Tyler Yates on December 14, 2001. Justice was obtained in the trade that sent Robin Ventura to the Yankees earlier that winter. Needless to say Justice never played a single game with the Mets.

Jack Frost has officially refused to nip at Mo Vaughn’s nose !!!

Boy, it was loud in there.  I couldn’t hear a good portion of the
answers, was trying to read lips on the ‘didn’t make an offer to Jose’
    question – LOL.

I’m sure though Sandy didn’t say anything we already didn’t know.  It’s
over and done with anyway, no sense beating a dead horse.  Time to move
    on.

It was a party so I guess it can’t be helped regarding the volume of the music but it does seem to be much easier to understand what Alderson is saying about the 4:30 mark on.  Looking forward to the rest of the videos Rusty. Nice job.

All you MMO posters can go to hell. It’s been too quite over here so I went over to the insane asylum and not they got me locked up.

LOL…I saw the comments from you over there today.
I must be bored as well b/c I engaged the infamous Bayonne in a debate when he responded to one of my comments.

I saw that.  Salty should take it as a badge of honor to get ranted on by Bayonne.  Pretty much means he posted an intelligent, thought provoking comment.

sometimes it is just fun to poke the bear to get him riled up.

If they would change up this posting system here, I’d be here more often.  It’s so slow…..

Actually a request has been put in to see if the posting system can be changed.

I think we are also too much on the same page with many topics and are well thought out so we don’t have to rehash the same crap.

the original idea with Disqus was to use a more widely known format so ppl could comment without registering specifically with the old format. It has helped in allowing people that never commented before to comment but the negative has been the delay in posts refreshing in the recent comments tab.

I actually like using Disquis for that same reason. A great benefit is that you get alerts below the article if someone replied which is real helpful. I’ve leaned to not trust the “recent comments” section so I click in the post if anyone is talking but that does take extra clicks. I imagine Disguis has to have some kind of widget to help with this, right?

    I’M EXHAUSTED.
