Pitchers and catchers report…….I’m just curious who those pitchers and catchers will be.

The cheapest ones we can find!

Well, I am looking forward to it. Once the Giants aren’t giving something to watch, you just have a long cold winter to look forward to.
I know I am one of about 3 people at this point who is actually looking forward tot he season starting, but some of my best times as a Met fan were back in the late 70s, so this is a walk in the park.
and overall I do expect the team to be at least as good as last year. But I have been wrong before (or so I have been told by the wife…)

I am with you 100% on all of this.
But I definitely think they will be worse than last year; 5–12 games worse.

Good or bad, I’m with you – looking forward to watching some Met baseball.

Granted they’ll be fighting for fourth place all year, I’m still as excited as I always am for the season to start. Hell, I started watching the team in 1990, so to me the Mets have always been defined by failure, misery, and being a bunch of embarrassing clowns on and off the field. So I’m ready to watch this team with all its young guys regardless of how bad the season goes.

My first Met memories are the 1973 postseason–I remember my Dad being SO pissed after game 7 in Oakland. And I figured I would watch the Mets every year in the postseason!!
Uh sure, kid.
And at that age, the 13 years until 1986 seemed like FOREVER.
But as my Met formative years were the late 1970s and yours included 1992-1993, we have a pretty good foundation of Met misery to keep us going through 2012.

I remember ’73, that was the year I went to my first games (Dairylea nosebleed seats!). But I really became obsessively hooked in ’75/’76.

look at the bright side. neither Bobby Bo or Vince Coleman will be on the team this year!

With the football Giants in the playoffs and the Knicks projected to be a competitive team in the NBA this year coupled with the excellent play of the Rangers in the NHL there’s plenty of sports action to keep my rooting interest high. Unfortunately once the baseball season starts the absence of a New York, National League, Major League franchise gives me little to follow in professional sports but the glorious spring and summer weather more than makes up for it.

No matter how bad we might be, I’m still looking forward to Spring Training. Baseball rules.
