Lack Of Depth Concerns As Spring Training Approaches

At the time of this post there was still 47 days 13 hours & 45 minutes till the start of Spring Training for the Mets. Plenty of time for a player or 2 to be added that may address my concern over the lack of depth that there appears to be at 2 positions shortstop and centerfield.

Unlike 2011 where the Mets had Ruben Tejada to take up most of the everyday duties if Reyes went down and one could say the same for Pridie if Pagan went down. This upcoming season there is still not a clear choice who would replace Tejada or Torres if they went down.

Plenty of time to address this but something to keep in mind as Spring Training approaches.

On that note, the Mets have signed yet another to a minor league contract: Omar Quintanilla.

    Who???

Looks like the plan is to sign a bunch of minor league contracts, invite them all to ST, see who sticks.  Apparently Omar is a BU type MI.

Yeah, to me the lack of SP, CF and C are scary.  Hopefully that is solved sooner than later.  And while I’m intrigued with what Toronto could offer for Niese (which is probably the best trade chip at the moment), losing him without getting a pitcher back is going to leave the Major League team with crap as backups.  They have to spend 3-4 mil to get another SP or 2.  Even Maholm or someone with some experience please…

Not to worry TX, in another cost saving measure the Met’s plan to fill the positions with Uncle Saul at C, the speedy “yute” Jeff Wilpon in CF, and Sandy Koufax protégé Fred “Sach” Wilpon as a SP.

Thank the Lord for beer.  It is going to be needed this summer (and spring, winter and autumn).

lol.  agreed.  Any chance you watch Black Adder?  There’s a great episode called Beer.  Well worth the 30 minute investment of time.

ps – belated Happy New Year TX and all TRDMB family.

I just don’t any reason for concern on January 3rd for bench players who frequently sign late.

As far as CF depth, we have Niewenhuis and Lowen not to mention whoever they sign for big league bench. In an emergency, they could also call up den dekker who at the least, will play good D. Backman has said his D is big league ready.

At Short, Valdespin seems to be the most likely.
