From Batista to Young the Mets over the last 2 years have signed around 40 free agents with most being signed to minor league contracts. 10 signings have been to pro contracts if you include the Cedeno & Hairston signings which have yet to be official.
If you look at what the 10 Pro contracts the Mets committed to in guaranteed money only it breaks down to $25.8M. $8.1M in 2011 and $17.7M in 2012.
In 2011 some of those minor league contract signings made the MLB Team as well as those signed to pro contracts. Here is a look at how the signings that played for the MLB Mets fared in 2011.
Finally here is a list of those free agent signings over the past 2 years.

When Francisco is your highest profile signing… That’s saying something.

You think the band would mind if I nicknamed them “motley crue II”?

FMART and Herrera put on waivers. I have no problem on the FMART move and they obviously did it knowing the kid was done. I imagine he won’t make it through waivers though but we will see.

I’m a little shocked at this, honestly. no way FMart doesn’t get picked up. Also, Herrera had a better shot of helping the major league club than DJ did. And who would take DJ and his contract (minus the 400K)? I’m confused at these moves.

is it based on options? DJ would be getting paid for nothing, but the other guys potentially could clear and stay in the system (met’s option).
But I too am surprised by F Mart.

I’m a little surprised. I would think Fmart has more upside as a 4th OF then Carrasco does in the BP.
