This morning Metsblog posted the link to Laurel Pfahler’s article over at TCPalm.com about the construction crews having begun $2.5M in renovations at Digital Domain Park and in exchange the Mets agreed to extend their lease from 2018 to 2023.
The provision was voted and unanimously approved last September. But while they approved to extend the lease agreement at Digital Domain five years from 2018 to 2023 they also agreed to a provision allowing the Mets to terminate the lease agreement if the number of teams on the east coast of Florida, drops below four teams and that is including the Mets.
Right now there are 4 teams on the East Coast.
New York Mets
Digital Domain Park
Port St. Lucie, FL.
Washington Nationals
Space Coast Stadium
5800 Stadium Parkway Viera, FL.
St. Louis Cardinals / Miami Marlins
Roger Dean Stadium
4751 Main Street Jupiter, FL.
The Dodgers & Orioles having left the East Coast in recent years have forced the Mets to play more games against the same opponent or travel further for competition. With the Nationals exploring options in both Florida and Arizona into moving their spring training operations it would make sense that their names have come up as a possible 2nd team to join the Mets at Digital Domain Park.
