Through the years there have been many songs that we have associated with our beloved Mets.
In the ’60′s when you heard the song “You Gotta Have Heart” you immediately thought of the team that played at Shea Stadium. In the ’70′s a apt song was probably “In My Time Of Dying” by Led Zeppelin. By The fast paced ’80′s The “Curly Shuffle” reigned supreme by Flushing Bay and obviously in the late ’90′s to early last decade we had a combination of “New York, New York”, L.A. Woman and “Taking Care of Business”.
For the past five years or so the Mets have gone without a true theme song/rally cry. Yes they have trie songs by The Black Eyes Peas and Cold Play, but neither really whipped up a frenzy with the Citi Field crowd – I guess when your team is mired in dearth of losing seasons its hard to get excited for anything.
But here we are entering the ’12 season – a season that many people feel will be just as miserable as the past 5 that preceded it. I feel maybe – just maybe a new theme song/rally cry may be the x factor that can help this team win.
So is my shortlist of songs that I feel are the best fit for the Mets theme songs of 2012 -if there is a song that you feel should be included in the debate please feel free to submit them in the comment section.
1. “Momma Told Me Not To Come” - by Three Dog Night (for the Mets fan that is boycotting the franchise).
2. “Was It All Worth It” - By Queen ( for the alleged 10 new Mets minority owners who plucked down 20 million bucks for basically a sit down with Mr. Met)
3. “Poker Face” - by Lady Gaga (because we know the Wilpon’s are bluffing about their financial status)
4.” I had the time of my life” - from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack. ( hey why not ?!?)
5.” You Are What You Is” -by Frank Zappa (because like Bill Parcells once said ” You are what your record dictates !”)
* If you haven’t guessed yet this column was meant to be satirical !!
And with that said….. HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!!
Mets alumni celebrating a birthday today includes:
Mets Pitching coach from the ’03 season, Vern Ruhle would have been 61 today (1951) .
Sadly on this date in 2010, the woman who serenaded the Mets faithful from 1964 to 197, Jane Jarvis passed away.
The New York Mets traded reserve outfielder, Damon Buford to the Texas Rangers for minor league outfielder, Terrell Lowery on January 25, 1996.
The New York Mets sold the contract of outfielder, Angel Pagan to the Chicago Cubs on January 25, 2006.Pagan spent five uneven seasons with the Mets, and was traded to the Giants this off-season.
The New York Mets signed free agent pitcher, Aaron Sele of the Los Angeles Dodgers on January 25, 2007.Sele spent one season with the Mets as a middle reliever. He went 3-2 with a 5.37 E.R.A.

“Darkest Days” by Stabbing Westward
Cause that’s what 2012 will be for the fans as we watch this miserable team get pounded by a very strong NL East.

3 possible suggestions, off the Queens of the Stone Age album “Songs for the Deaf”…
- “You Think I ain’t Worth a Dollar but I feel like a Millionaire” (self explanatory)
- “The Sky is Fallin’” (Just ask MMO)
- “First it Giveth” (cause obviously it’s Sandy that taketh away…)

not sure if it is the correct title, but “I will survive” from the disco era.
And rusty, you should know better about the shares being sold. They are smart business people, buying a cut of a potential goldmine that is undervalued at the moment. Team should be worth a lot more in a few years.
They aren’t buying the perks (though hell, some sounded pretty cool to me!) and aren’t “giving their money to the Wilpons”

Ha! Great list. Love the suggestions by my fellow Met fans as well.
I’d like to be singing ‘We Are The Champions’ by Queen come Oct. but I’m sure that’s just a fantasy. So more like Bohemian Rhapsody:
Is this the real life?.
Is this just fantasy?.
Caught in a landslide,
No escape from reality.’……

My first major concert was at age 15 in summer, 1982 at Madison Square Garden–Queen with Billy Squier opening.
Oh man, will I NEVER forget that night!

Two thumbs up.
My first concert was Yes in the Round at the Garden in like ’77 followed next by Jethro Tull with Uriah Heap opening lost track of the next one, was either The Who or The Grateful Dead… ah youth.
Quick Billy Squier story: When he divorced his first wife the ex-Mrs. Squier who couldn’t sing set out to record an album to try to cut her own spot out in the industry. My poor friend got stuck working on this project, it was horrible, I heard the tracks, yikes. Poor Ba$tard went from working with the Dixie Dreggs to that, paid the bills though.

OT:
Did anyone see the new segment on MLB Network last night called: Baseball IQ?
It’s a trivia challenge between 2 teams – one member each of the FO of each team. Whoever wins goes onto the next round. All winnings are for charity and the contestants pick his/her charity. You score points in the form of runs and 9 innings are played. All baseball trivia categories and questions, of course.
Round one last night was the Mets vs. the Phils
We had a young statistician analyst vs. an older Phils information analyst/administrator of scouting.
Mets kid kicked Phillies analyst’s butt.
Final score was 14-7
HAHAHAHA
Mets will advance to round 2. The Philly contestant didn’t look too happy. Very intense, like this was some real game against the 2 clubs. Didn’t help that the host – Matt Vasgersian – was hyping the Met/Philly rivalry.

Rusty I embedded the audio to your 5 songs. They work fine on the PC version of FireFox I am using.
If anyone finds it doesn’t work on the browser they are using could you comment what browser you are using and if it’s PC or Mac or for that matter if your on a smartphone. In particular anyone using Chrome.

Y’all have to take a look at this:
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/reading-phillies-crazy-home-run-derby-going-assault-201321382.html
Only the Phillies….
HR Hitting Derby for charity. What they reel in for charity might be eaten up by what they potentially have to pay out in injuries.
Quacking ducks, cranes, trampoline and a dunking machine in the OF, 500 people in the IF, a musician playing in front of the mound. A bar at 2nd base with food stands at the other bases – all with someone batting….there is no way this ends good.
Still, if I were close enough looks like it’s worth the price of a ticket – LOL.

I see where Bayonne Mets Fan attacked you at MMO. When dealing with him just remember the Law of Logical Argument – “Anything is possible if you don’t know what you are talking about.” It certainly applies to him.

LOL….
I can’t take that guy seriously. He’s a throw back to another era in baseball and he absolutely refuses to accept it’s a new game now. I think he actually believes if fans like him complain enough, they’ll all just abandon advanced stats and go back to the ‘eye test’.
He really needs to join the rest of us in the 21st century.

I’d love to see them try and argue their points over here or an AA. Especially AA – those guys would chew them up and spit them out….then ban them. LOL.
Joe D. is a very accommodating type of guy apparently.
It’s not the point of the difference of opinion that’s the problem. It’s the personal attacks they use. Can’t believe the anger of some just b/c others don’t agree with them.

hahaha –
you know he really discounts my comments all together b/c I’m female. I can’t possibly know what I’m talking about by virtue of the fact that I never played ‘baseball’. Therefore he assumes everything I might know comes from ‘reading’.
He really was born about 50 years too late. He’d get along well with my Dad, who still believes women belong in the kitchen, not the workforce. Ah…gotta love my Dad. Bayonne…not so much…..

I like Stick’s I Will Survive—seems right for the fans and the team, and really, this is one of the true great songs of the 1970s. Gloria Gaynor.
Drain You by Nirvana?
Fell on Black Days by Soundgarden?
Down in a Hole by Alice in Chains?
Alive by Pearl Jam?
Touch Me I’m Sick by Mudhoney?
Hey, what do you expect from me?
I think the team is going to SUCK and finish last, but I am counting the days till spring. I lived and died with the Mets as a kid from 1977-1983 so I can handle anything.
Who knows, it really could be 1982 or 1983 with Wheeler/Harvey/Mejia/Familia/etc…

I love me some Superunknown…
Enjoy me some Lanegan and the Screaming Trees too. Maybe some “I nearly lost you” for 2013/2014, as the song from the Mets to the fans, as the kids start grabbing the league by the short ones, taking names and kicking, uh, baseballs.

Lanegan and the Trees—for me, clearly the greatest of the 1990s Seattleites who never made it really big.
Nearly Lost You–for me the 2nd best song of the Grunge era after Smells Like Teen Spirit. What a great song.
