The Sunday Question

By this time next week, it’s all about Spring Training but since the Giants are in the Super Bowl, I think it’s only fair we ask a football question this week.

Today’s question is:  Do you have good numbers in your box pool?

The bonus question:  Which team tonight’s big game?

I’m in a couple of pools so I’ve got several combo of numbers. Are they good? I don’t know….I’ll let you know after the game!

Don’t really follow football so beats me who is going to win or what the score will be. I see the point spread has it close.

Giants peaking at right time…receivers maturing, Eli playing great, and the pass rush in top form.

Pats’ defense not that great; they beat two teams with mediocre offenses, while the Giants beat the NFC’s two best regular season teams on the road in the playoffs–that’s rare.

The combo of the pass rush and the big play offense makes the difference.

    Giants 30, Pats 24.

But if all of the Giants’ strong point players play their best, they win by 2 TDs.

I think the Giant’s can win this one, and expect to see a lot of pints put up.

Not sure if the Pat’s TE is playing (gronk whatshisname). if he is out, Giant chances go way up!

Giants in seven! Wait, wrong sport. :p

I don’t follow football, so I’ll be doing my normal Sunday things instead of watching, but I do hope all of you get to see an enjoyable game.

    GO BIG BLUE!!!!

Good Luck to all you Giants fans out there.

  7. stick

that was one of the most depressing halfs of football I have ever seen (at least after the first 5 minutes or so!)

what a time for the classic giants D to rear it’s ugly head.

  8. stick

OK then, made up for it in the 4th quarter.

The mets might be in a down period, but at least every few years the Giants deliver a championship!

It’s like a mute in the morgue around these parts…

Yeah, hopefully once we get going in spring training there will be something to talk about. Hell even at MMO the only thing we talk about is the exact same thing everyday.

      1. SaltyGary

Exactly. I think we all have enough respect for others and the game to bring that kind of element here. Also, there really isn’t anything to talk about right now.

        1. Stickguy

          but Sandy Saves, right?

Guess it is time for me to write my tome on how the Mets are making the playoffs. Or maybe my other piece, Havens: the next Duda?

          1. gategem

I understand that Havens actually has some athleticism and can field his position and make quick moves without falling over his own shadow. So hopefully Havens is the next Davis.

Alrighty, being a Giants fan in a celebratory mood here’s a question to spur some posts, maybe:

If the Mets were to win the world series what brand of celebratory beer would you pop open?

          3. SaltyGary

This is what I had on hand last night. My wife went on a business trip and my Mother in Law was awesome enough to take the kids so I can watch the game. I also chose to be alone, because I knew I would not be fun to be around because I was a freak during the SF game and it’s not often that it’s just me and the dog so I took the opportunity.

Not all was drunk but I bought

            6-pack of Smuttynose Robust Porter
            6-Pack Victory Hop Devil
1 Bottle Allagash Black Belgium Ale (Sorry Nova not much Ommagang around here)
1 Bottle “White Birch” Hooksett Ale (very local probably NH only)
2 Bottles Berkshire Baltic porter. Really bummed opened one bottle and it was skunked. This has been my favorite all winter.

The Allagash was my during the game celebration beer.

          4. darknova306

That’s a mighty fine selection. Love Berkshire, though I’ve never had the chance to try the Baltic porter.

And I love Allagash, so no worries there! :)

          5. SaltyGary

I have to go to specific stores to get anything Ommegang and I usually drink those in the summer (and still very much a noob to the Belgium’s). Maine is just close than NY to Allagash is easier. Duvel is my fav Belgium so far and Hennipin is what started my enjoyment.

          6. darknova306

Ah, Duvel is great, and I’m not just saying that because they pay my paycheck. :)

Sad thing is I can’t actually get Allagash anymore, since they pulled out of NY to concentrate on filling demand in their more local markets. I’ve always been a big fan of theirs.

          7. Hazmet

            Nice :)

I knew that question would stir some activity. Thanks for weighing in. For special celebrations I usually go for an Orval Trapist Ale.

          8. NJstuckinTX

A case of Dale’s Pale Ale. For starters.

          9. SaltyGary

I almost went for Dale’s but I’ve been putting off trying the Victory for some time. Dale’s is in my top 3.

For me in the summer there is nothing better than kayaking a whole bunch of miles and then just sitting near the dock in my boat and plowing through a bunch to regain my energy.

          10. darknova306

When they do win their next championship, I’ll be celebrating with a Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout from 2006. I still have half a case of those, and that was an amazing batch of it.

    2. MetsFan4Decades

Yeah pretty quiet in Mets land right now.

All that’s being put out there is nothing more than pure speculation and rehashing of the same points over and over.

AA has been doing their Top 50 prospect list the past couple of weeks or so. That’s been interesting. In the past, they put it together in a PDF for download and last year actually published it but have abandoned that this year. Apparently, it was a lot of work for folks who had full time jobs.
Their analysis though today on 15 down to 11 was interesting.

      1. darknova306

It’s been funny reading the whining at MMO about Ankiel not signing with the Mets. Apparently that’s a sign of how little any FA wanted to sign with the Mets this offseason. Last I checked the Mets haven’t really made any contract offers that were turned down, so that theory is complete garbage.

        1. MetsFan4Decades

Those 3 over at MMO are just over the top.

I can’t get through any post that Metsie dude makes. It’s usually way too long winded and doesn’t get to the point until the last 2 sentences, which is all he really needed to say. I normally skip over them, especially if he’s responding to me. Besides, he’s always YELLING at everyone.

Bayonne, who just keeps stalking my every post (I’ve concluded from his insults he believes females have no business talking baseball)…doesn’t get any response back from me anymore other than *YAWN*. It just a waste of time with him.

Alex? LOL…I can’t ever understand what he’s trying to say other than he hates the two Ss…..Sandy and sabermetrics.

          1. TRS86

Alex, the only one with any reasoning ability in the group but wants to be loved so badly, lol. His undying love for DWright is unmatched.

          2. SaltyGary

I’m not going to bother with Bayonne anymore, he really bores me at this point. Since he makes no attempt to either remember or believe what someone says and would rather believe they have some other position, there is no point bantering with him.

Metsie is scum and I am having a lot of fun with that guy right now.

Alex doesn’t bother me because I see hope in that young man. Also at times he can be very reasonable and even when he is not it doesn’t come across like he is frothing from the mouth.

          3. SaltyGary

maybe I spoke too soon about Alex lol.
