Sandy Alderson Joins Twitter

As confirmed by the Mets and MLB, GM Sandy Alderson has created a Twitter account.  Judging by his first two tweets, this could get interesting.

Most interpreted his first tweet as a joke about the monetarily-challenged Mets organization.  I interpreted it as a joke about high gas prices.  I could just be naive.

Regardless, Alderson hopping on Twitter is a good P.R. move for the team.  One can’t be sure how much he’ll actually share, but time will tell.

Getting unprecedented access to players, coaches, managers, and GMs is one of the greatest benefits of Twitter.  R.A. Dickey and Justin Turner, for instance, have been very interactive with Mets fans.

Agreed on the good P.R. move Paul. The question I have is Alderson the 1st active MLB GM to ever get a Twitter account?

I agree that this is ultra-cool and a truly great use of Twitter.

I looked at it in a way to add humor to a real crappy operating situation while also suggesting it isn’t as bad as people make it out to be and the ship will get corrected.

  4. Stickguy

of course he was making a joke about the team financial situation.

and high comedy seeing Bayonne go off on him.

almost enough to have me sign up. But not quite. As long as people here or at MMO post the good stuff!

This tweet from Andy McCullough made me laugh.

I still have more Twitter followers than Sandy Alderson. I’m going to savor this next hour or so.

    McCullough has 6.049 followers.
    Alderson now has 7,267 followers.

Too bad he’ll spend the first few days or so doing nothing but blocking some of the most obnoxious so called Mets fan I’ve ever read.
Seriously, some of them could benefit from some anger management therapy.

Ya know if they used just a little tact with their statements, he might respond with a position. How they don’t understand why people react negatively to their pitbull style of commenting is beyond me. There are really psychological issues at hand.

“Too bad he’ll spend the first few days or so doing nothing but blocking some of the most obnoxious so called Mets fan I’ve ever read.”

I was thinking that as well. I’m gonna assume that whomever setup the twitter account is very familiar with the how to block feature. My question would be is there a ceiling at the number of people that can be blocked? If there is he may just max it out.

I joined Twitter and Bayonne already blocked me. I think I am going to leave twitter.

You know Rusty is very active on Twitter as is Ceetar.

For the last 2 years I constantly look at the twitter feed on the left here and a couple others feeds across the web. It’s become unavoidable. I will probably rarely tweet, but information just comes so much quicker through the medium.

And I like to see when Rusty and other connect to other Mets sources, it’s such a great medium. I am just so connected to technology with work and life, that I try to be stubborn in areas of direct access. I refused to even get a cellphone until my wife got pregnant. At least I live in the mountains and can run away real quick.

LoL, being a TV/Movie buff I find often that certain comments trigger memories of certain characters from TV or movies. (I just described an old HBO series called Dream On but that’s besides the point) In any case your comment of being able to at least run away into the mountains reminded me of this character from an NBC Show Parks & Recreation called Ron Swanson.

First of all OMFG on “Dream ON”. It’s been so many years, so I had to google it, but as soon as I saw the image I freaked. I used to love that show. As a kid it was funny as hell and it gave the occasional boob shot. Just a perfect perfect show. LOL Thank you for bringing that up.

I haven’t watched P&R at all but thanks for the clip. There is a site that I go to called “theChive” which is a photo-blog site and people are obsessed with Swanson. I never took the time to find clips so thanks for getting me up to speed.

“Capitalism: Gods way of determining who is smart and who is poor”.

Also when that lady is trying to talk to him and he just spins around in his chair had me in tears.

Twitter definitely brings out the worst of the worst when it comes to people using the anonymity of the internet to be assholes. There’s a lot of garbage on there, but I’ve made a ton of great connections and friends. Lots of great craft beer folks, lots of knowledgeable and fun Mets fans (after weeding out the crazy/psycho/ridiculous ones), and lots of other random interesting people. It’s truly a great medium, but it takes vigilance and focus to get the most out of it.

I actually found you and see that you have a brewing blog. Haven’t had a chance to read it yet…

I use it mostly to post my recipes, but sometimes I talk about topics of real substance.
