Releasing Nickeas, Cedeno and spending around 15 million dollars more before April

I’m excited about every season regardless. And spring training performances are typically worthless at predicting in-season success, so I really only pay attention to how guys recovering from recent injuries are moving on the field (Santana, Ike, etc…).
Now if you want me to have the slightest bit of optimism for the season, show me a healthy Santana throwing 95MPH with pinpoint control (which ain’t happening).

A Sidd Finch story that isn’t an April Fool’s Day joke.
Seriously, I’m happy that baseball season is approaching and I love to watch the game… but we’re going to be watching a last-place team in 2012.

My excitement is probably on par with the ’94 season but at least there are guys like Ike and Duda to root for.

positive signs out of the SP. That is the only area that really scares me (and where I don’t think we can match up as at least WC competitive).
So, Santana looking like he can contribute + a late shocker signing of Oswalt (he is still available, isn’t he?) combined with Pelf looking healthy with focus and sink, and then I will start seriously taking them serious!

Closure on the Wilpon – Picard front to gain a small improvement in projecting cost certainty that may enable the ownership to “splurge” on a couple of veteran signings like Oswalt for the rotation and Ibanez maybe as a lefthanded bat off the bench. However, the last few useable guys will be gone by the time the case is settled so I’ll just be happy if we can maybe get a glimpse of Harvey and Wheeler in spring traing to see what there is to look forward to in a few years. Then for the season, I’ll take it a game at a time, hopefully they can dwell around .500 for for a stretch into the season to keep the juices flowing.

Oh, and let there be a Reese Havens in our 2012 lineup at some point.

Reese is my man crush for this season (of the upcoming player variety). Now that my boy Duda is all growed up and a real ML player!

In this order:
1. SP – need to have the starting 5 nailed down. This of course depends on Johan
2. 2nd base – this is Murphy’s job to lose? Are they taking a long look at whoever the heir apparent might be? (Havens? Valdespin?)
3. CF – Is Torres really going to be the starting CF?

I’m already excited.
but, Santana pitching is exciting. And the more he pitches without experiencing a setback will be just that much more exciting.
Looking forward to some of the ‘almost’ prospects. Nieuwenhuis, and some of the starting pitchers slated for AA/AAA.
Looking forward to watching Ike and Duda play, really just looking forward to actual baseball games with guys in Mets uniforms. Results don’t really matter. 30-0 or 0-30 in March and I’ll have the same feelings about the season.
