I don’t often agree with Ken Rosenthal but his article that taks about why he thinks the expanded playoffs are good for baseball is one I agree with many of his points. The biggest point being,
- Teams will scramble like crazy to win their divisions. The wild card teams will be at a true disadvantage, burning their best pitchers in the playoff game, and maybe to qualify for that game as well.
It’s an interesting read where Rosenthal goes on to discuss some of the pros and cons of this move. An interesting one involves a comment Yankee GM Brian Cashman said two years ago.
